Is it inflammation?

For about a week I've been having this pressure sensation near my anus and sometimes the area under my belly button. It is not the anus itself but it feels like it's inside, possibly the rectum? It has become difficult to pass gas and I have a constant urge to defecate even if I already have. The pressure and pain gets worse if I sit down. I feel the best in the mornings, the pressure is very minimal. During the day it feels like something is trapped in there, as if I just ate a large meal. My GI said it was constipation and gave me laxatives but even after taking them the pressure just came back. My stools are normal and there is no bleeding but I have been constipated a few times. Could it possibly be inflammation, or maybe a growth of some sort blocking it? Any help appreciated, I am a little scared about this. I am 22 years old.

It sounds like tenesmus which occurs with rectal inflammation. Sorry for the crudeness but when I experience this, it feels like someone's fist is in my rectum. The pressure is unbearable and at times, the only way for me to pass gas is to sit on the toilet. Are you having pain with your BMs? If you truly have rectal inflammation, you would need rectal meds.

No pain during my BMs as of yet, just a constant pressure in my behind. Using the bathroom does make the discomfort go away though, but it's only temporary(usually comes back within the hour). What type of meds would I need?

Either mesalamine enema or suppository. Brands are rowasa enema and canasa suppository. I see that you are new so I suggest you use the search feature at the top and search "tenesmus" or "proctitis."

What meds are you on now?

nothing right now, this is the first time I've experienced something like this. I've recently had gastritis and GERD though. Thank you for the tip.

If it continues, make an appointment with a GI. Do you have crohn's or ulcerative colitis? I ask just because you're not on any meds.

I have never had a colonoscopy to diagnose any of those. Am i too young for it or should I get one?
My GI is also against it so it's a bit frustrating.

He's against a colonoscopy? Why? You're not too young. Many people are dx in there 20's with IBD.

I will bring it up again, thank you again for the help. i've been very anxious it could be something life threatening.

Agree w platinumpixie, this sounds like rectal inflammation. You need first to see a colorectal surgeon to examine you. If inflammation of the rectum is found, then, you'll be prescribed rectal meds. Hopefully, it turns out to be hemmis or fissures and not proctitis.
