Skin around fingertips is peeling, cracking, flaking and splitting open

I have always had this problem since childhood. Usually, when the skin starts flaking, blood drops can come out of the 10 hand fingers at the same time. Usually, it takes its time and resolves on its own.
However, things are different this time. I started a month ago. I applied an ointment for moisturizing the fingertips. At the time I thought they were starting to heal, craking and flaking increase and even touching a small piece of paper could make me see blood drops again.

Minnie, I've a similar condition that seems exacerbated at different times of the year or stress levels.  But I was diagnosed with dyshidrotic eczema...don't know if it's crohn's related, or hereditary as my aunt who has crohn's also has it, but so does my father to a degree but he doesn't have crohn's.  If I remember, I use the Lubriderm extra dry skin lotion and it seems to help but doesn't cure, and it seems it's really just a matter of time thing when it stops for a moment.

I've had skin problems that wax and wane but don't know if it's Crohn's related. Some medications can cause severe drying too. Cymbalta dried my skin worse than anything else I've ever taken, but I know others who take and it doesn't do that to them. I starting using 100% HPA lanolin, especially on places that tear.

My fingers are doing that too, but it's -17 F here today. I'm assuming it's the frigid weather. Hand lotion isn't cutting it. Maybe I'll ask the pharmacist for the lanolin.

My husband has that same issue. He started using O'keefes balm on them. I'll let you know if it works.

Gumby, the lanolin I use is in the baby section, Lansinoh, marketed for breastfeeding soreness. I know it sounds strange, but it's the only pure lanolin we know of that we can buy around here. I love the stuff for a lip balm. My daughter has so many allergies that she can't use most products, which is how I came across it.

Have you tried bag balm or tiger balm?  They work pretty well too, especially with the winters we get in Colorado, it not only gets cold, but it's dry as hell all the time.

No. Is tiger balm or bag balm brand names? Do I get it at a pharmacy. I've only been using hand lotion, and it's not cutting it. I don't think this has anything to do with Crohn's for me. It's just this polar vortex weather!

They carry it in the local clinic's internal pharmacy, and the walgreens out here carries them too I think.  Tiger Balm and Bag Balm are the actual names of the products and if you google them you can see the product and see if it's something you might give a chance.  I know with the cold and altitude out here it's impossible not to get cracked skin.
