Antibiotics for fistula BESIDES Cipro and Flagyl?

I am allergic to Cipro and I can not tolerate Flagyl. It makes me very very sick and miserable. Are there any other antibiotics for fistula treatment? I am currently on Vancomycin for cdiff treatment and it has really helps with the rectal pain that I am having. Now that the cdiff has cleared up, and I only have a few more days on vanco, I was wondering if I had any other options. I'm worried the severe symptoms will return when I finish the vanco course.

With having had c diff, you really don't want to use antibiotics to treat any more than necessary. Vanco and flagyl, even though used to treat c diff, can also cause c diff. Have you tried biologics?

Yes, tried remicaide in '05.. It closed up the fistula for a few months but I started having a bad reaction so they took me off of it. Since then and up until now I have lived with permanent seton and have had no flares.

So why would you need antibiotics if you aren't having flares? Sorry, I'm a little slow today and not making the connection. My brain is tired.

That's ok my post probably wasn't that clear. I said since then and up until now. Meaning until now I wasn't flaring. But now I am :( My brains tired today too lol

Only rectal pain though. No other Crohns symptoms. Colorectal surgeon thinks it's a Crohns flare and GI said he doesn't think it has anything to do with Crohns. So I don't know what's going on. I just know my bum hurts bad :( MRI and CT showed some rectal inflammation but no abscesses or additional fistulas. Scope scheduled for next week

I have rectal pain too, but it always disappears after my remicade infusion, so I would say it's definitely a Crohns related symptom!

No definitely not hemorrhoids. It started off feeling like an abscess infection, terrible pain and it also felt like I was being stabbed by a hot fire poker, then sharp needles! Now It's pressure throughout both sides of the rectum and additional pain at the site of the fistula. I have been pretty much in bed for 2 months now besides doctors appointments. They have done CT and MRI and office exam and haven't found any abscesses. I'm at a loss and praying they can figure something out from the scope. I asked about the antibiotics because since I've been on the vanco, the pain has gotten much better even though I can't sit or stand for long still. But allergic to Cipro and intolerant to Flagyl. :(

I'm sorry, I don't know much. :( Have you had a stool sample for something other than c. diff.?

I have a fistula and seton. I also can no longer take cipro or Flagyl.
I am taking augmentin and bactrim
They help but not as much as the others did

Old Cronie, thanks for the reply. How long have you had the fistula and how long have you been on antibiotics? I have had mine since '05 with 2 failed repair procedures. I have lived with the seton with no problems or pain until now. Now everything down there is very painful :(

Sorry for the late reply I just saw your post.
I have had PA fistulas for much of the past 30 years.
For much of that time I was on Flagyl and cipro on and off until no more flagyl for me.
Fortunately Remicade came along and bye bye fistula for 10 great years.
Eventually built up tolerance to REMI and no longer working same for humira. Fistula came back while trying Humira.
That's a year ago and have been on augmentin or other anti biotics ever since. Depends on how your body handles them. Probiotics are very important.
Now my GI has me on a novel and off label therapy tacrolimus ointment and clindamycin cream inserted about 1 cm into my anus 2x day. Seems to be helping will know better in a few more weeks?
Very tough healing fistulas. Good luck.
