Any help for getting off Entocort?

My doctor tells me I can stop with no taper, but I am not doing that. Every time I lower the dose by 3mg I have emotional and mental issues.(It takes a week to settle down, and another week before I am feeling sort of normal again)

Since I cannot open the capsule, or go below 3mg how do you get off of it?

3mg every other day, then every three days, then every four days for a couple of weeks then stop?

I'd ask that question to your doc explaining that you would prefer to wean and what he/she suggests?

I follow a very slow taper: the average technique. I have been on Entocort for 3 1/2 years now. When I want to taper the 9 mg dose, I take one day 3 capsules (9mg) and on the other day 2 capsules (6mg). 9+6= 15รท2= 7.5mg. You can stay on it for at least 2 weeks and when you feel you have no symptoms, go down to 6mg (2capsules). Two days ago, I went down to 4.5 mg following the same technique. A capsule (3mg) on one day and 2 capsules (6mg) on the other w an average of 4.5 mg. Then you go down to 3mg and then 1.5 mg and then zero.

I was having a hard time getting off of entocort.

Lately I have been taking the capsule apart, and dumping some of the white beads out. Then I put the capsule back together, and swallow it. Nothing bad happened to me.

It looks like a gelatin capsule to me, but I do not know that for sure. The white beads inside seem to be the key to the medicine. So far each capsule has 20 beads.

That math would suggest that each tablet = 3mg
so each white bead = .15mg

I am now counting the beads and tapering that way.

I am not suggesting anyone do this, but I will let you guys know how it goes.

I am down to 6 beads now. There are 20 in each capsule.

With each taper.

I have withdrawals for 2-3 days. Increased symptoms such as more bathroom trips, loose stools, food moving through me faster. Once my body adjusts to the dose then everything settles down. I also have panic attacks in the morning(taking a very hot shower helps alot with this, and a multi complex b vitamin), and I have depression. After 2 sometimes 3 days I am ok again.

The biggest challenge for me comes from the euphoria I get after taking entocort. It makes me quite high. I wanted to taper as slowly as possible to prevent having to take ativan or xanax for the panic. I have not used these meds in several months.

I am not having any headaches though like I did when I just stopped it cold turkey. I dunno.

I hope to be off the stuff in 2-3 more weeks.
