Hello all, just joined today for several reasons. I'm a 52 yr old male diagnosed in 1986 with Crohns, since have had several resections, Abscess/Fistulas, Bowel Obstructions, rectal pull through procedure that literally ruined me ( in a trial surgery at Clev. Clinic ).
Just about all Meds related to crohns I have tried. Basically just wanted to say hello to all that suffer with some of same. My first post so I won't babble... Jim

Welcome to HW Jim,

Sounds like you've been through an awful lot. How's your quality of life, and what's expected from the latest treatment option?

I'm sorry to hear you had such a terrible outcome surgically. How long ago was the surgery?

Thank you for welcoming me to this group. I hope to learn from you all and share my experience in hopes of helping someone. I was diagnosed in 1986 while in the US Air Force and have had over 15 surgeries, the most recent in 2009 for a bowel obstruction (resection). I was involved in a clinical trial for Turnbull Rectal Pull Through surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in 1998. Unfortunately, the surgery was not successful and has left me with a quite poor quality of life as a result. I have very little sphincter control which leads to bowel incontinence and prolapse, as well as pain and issues with abdominal adhesions. I'm happy to answer any questions. I just need to figure out how to navigate this site a bit better.

A Turnbull rectal pull-through - just the sound of it makes me hurt! Yikes. And you having 15 surgeries - you're a tough person to go through all that.

I agree with having to be pretty tough. Only someone with a military backround could go through that. Other than the urgency issues, how are your symptoms?

But what is a rectal pullthrough and what was it meant to do?
