I have done both meds at separate times. All meds for Crohn's will suppress your immune system, since that's what the problem is. Imuran is actually one of the much lower-level drugs to take. Remicade is more intense, but it is much more effective, especially with healing fistulae. I am on a double dose of Remicade every 6 weeks instead of 8 weeks and have been on it for 3 years. With Imuran, I had the rare side effect of pancreatitis. Many people do both together because the Imuran helps prevent you from building up an allergy to the Remicade. I have fistulizing Crohn's, and went septic from my last abscess. Remicade has literally saved my life, and I'm in pretty good remission. Yes, these drugs suppress your immune system, but I would take a worse cold over fistulae and flares any day.
As for diet, some people find the Simple Carbohydrate Diet (from the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle") effective. In the meantime, a low residue diet should help ease the stomach pain.
