I had thirteen stones when I had mine removed. If one moves into the common bile duct and gets stuck, as mine did, it can cause life-threatening jaundice if not removed soon. It can also cause a lot of pain off and on, which I also experienced. I don't have to take Questran (not sure of the spelling) but I do avoid certain fatty foods. I learned pretty soon which ones bother me and not all types of fats/oils cause me problems. Pretty much what's okay for my Crohn's is the same as for the missing gallbladder. So for me, it's been no big deal living without it.
