Do I need to see a dermatologist after taking Humira?

its been 14 months since I started my Humira injections. I VAGUELY remember my Dr telling me I would need to see a dermatologist after 1 year to make sure no skin cancer. Anyone else hear that?

I see my derm once a year because a couple of years ago I got two moles that were pre-cancerous removed. I think it's a good idea just to get checked out.

Hello,

My son is currently on Humira and went for a skin check on Tuesday, they took three biopsies on what they considered to be suspicious moles. Out of my mind with worry waiting for the results so I would say yes make the appointment.

I've never heard of a skin cancer warning regarding Humira but I ended up having other skin issues from Humira so I was seeing a dermatologist anyway. It's probably a good idea to see one.

We were never told this! Now I'm in a panic :(. My daughter has been on Humira for 11 months and she's always had a lot of moles. What is it about Humira...is there a proven link between Humira and skin cancer???

Never warned or heard about increased skin cancer (and I'm covered in moles). However there is increased risk of lymphoma ... Particularly relevant to the young and teenagers.

My sons GI Doc suggested it to us recommending that he should see the Derm once a year. He also has taken 6mp and Methotrexate which I think also increase the risk. Waiting patiently for the results and hoping for the best.

It is NOT a huge increased risk!! Whenever a study says something like "triples risk of cancer" (which I am totally making up, I have no idea what it is between Humira and skin cancer), if the normal risk is only 2%, then you only go up to 6%. It's still fairly low. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

With any immunosuppressant, your body has lowered ability to fight off problems, so whether or not it increases cancer risk, it lowers your ability to contain problems. So it is just worth getting your yearly checkup, which is actually recommended for anyone who has moles, red hair and fair skin, is often in the sun, etc.
