Elemental diets, i.e. Exclusive Enteral Nutrition, work to reduce inflammation in Crohn's, but not UC. Medically prescribed formulae, elemental, semi-elemental, polymeric, JPT's brand of drink, they'll all work the same, but inflammation may reoccur when foods are added back into the diet, so you'd need to do an exclusion diet to find the culprits.
I've read conflicting reports about EEN being better for Crohn's located in the large bowel, others say it works better for small bowel disease, some say it won't work for rectal disease...
I think sole EEN does work to reduce inflammation in Crohn's, but whether it is an effective solution for pouchitis-located disease I don't know. VSL#3 is known to work for UC, not CD.
