What caused these symptoms? Severe shaking and nausea....

 Hey guys. Last night I went out to dinner for V-Day. Everything seemed fine. I had some steak, grilled octopus and sausage (went to a steakhouse). Felt great afterwards (no tummy rumbling and just a little gas). I went to bed around 3am.
   I woke up at 5am due to my severe cold shaking and nausea. You could hear my teeth rattling in the next room. It was uncontrollable. My stomach was a little bloated but it was not in pain and cramping. I do not believe I had a fever either.
   I then had 2 bm's (solid stool) an hour apart and started passing more gas. about two and a half hours later I felt well enough to go to bed.
   My fiance had all the same food and she is fine. Today I just feel a little bloated (like a nice big bm will make me 100%), but no nausea or shaking.
   It kinda scared me. Anyone have any ideas?

Ibdoer, Steak is really too tough for my system and gives me obstructive like episodes if I eat it. Maybe the meat was too much for your system. I sadly no longer can eat red meat because I end up having a bad night if I do. Just a thought. Good luck!

One of the typical Crohns symptoms is shaking and shivering when you're having a partial obstruction. The obstruction occurs when there is a narrowing down some place in your intestines. When meat or fibers from vegetables (often crispy vegetables like brocolli or other) has been eaten. When these foods are going to pass the narrowed intestines it will give you, fever like (without having fevers) shaking and shivering and nauseau, sometimes followed by vomiting and severe cramps.

If you're having just a little stricture where the intestines have had an inflammation going on for a while, you may find the same reactions when food passes that little area. Shakes and shivers (without having fevers) may occur then too. (even gas and bloating with shakes could suggest a narrowed spot). If you get as sick as I mentioned first, with severe cramps, vomiting and shakes you should go to the ER asap./Bee

Well Bee you just taught me why the mysterious symptoms I occasionally get happen. I get alternating hot and cold, sweating and shaking without a temperature change. It doesn't happen often and that's why I never related it to a partial obstruction. Again our experience come through as shared knowledge, thank you!

So you guys think I was having a partial obstruction? Thats even scarier. I thought of it, but I really didn't have any abdominal pain, so I wasnt sure what it could be. Who knows. At least I feel better. Thanks for your replies.

I'm going through some shaking and nausea at this moment. I don't get it that often, but when I do it is after eating really greasy food. I find that having the smell or taste of mint near by always helps, and after I feel slightly better I make myself some oatmeal. I also like putting a cold towel on my forehead or neck to help with the nausea; other remedies would be rubing my hands between my thumb and pointer finger. I often get it a few hours after eating dinner and it makes me physically drained. I hope some of my tricks help some of you guys.
