i finally got a response back from my gi. She told me that my crp of 6.9 is not elevated. Apparently aaccording to new studies the normal range is anything below 10. So she still thinks my problem is ibs rather than ibd. Also medicaid wont pay for a pill cam with "normal" crp. So that wont be happening.
6.9 is a little bit high, actually. My hospital sets the normal limit for CRP at 5, though that said no health professional I know would take a CRP of 7 seriously. But CRP is not an infallible guide to inflammation - in fact some people's CRP never rises, not even during an acute flare-up. I think doctors set too much store by it for diseases like IBD.
ok, I normally dont like to say that a doctor is not a good doctor, becuase its hard to get the entire perspective of what is going on, just by reading an online post.
But from what you said it is slightly alarming to me that she will not respond to your questions.
also, CRP is supposed to be at zero. if it is slightly over that (and each lab has their limit) it indicates inflammation, it is not neccesarily a cause for concern but it is something to take note of.
the way crp works is that (in about
80% of people) when we have inflammation our body produces c- reactive protien.
based on the fact that you had C. diff and it was slightly elevated at 2.1, being 6.9 may be considered more elevated for you. doctors need to look at bloodwork for each patient based on their personal trends. NOT on guidelines which are not specific to each type of situation.
what geographical
location do you live in? maybe its time to find a new GI
generally finding one who practices out of an academic institution that has an IBD center, and one who specializes in IBD
