Was wondering if anyone ever got a flare up from naproxen? I broke my foot 2 months ago and I've been in a flare since. Foot doctor said I need to be on it round the clock. I told him I had crohn's and probably shouldn't take it, but he said I should be fine. Of course they didnt want to give me real pain meds!! I must be on some national list that PROHIBITS drs from giving me pain medicine!! Like how many diseases do i need?? Now I'm wondering if naproxen could be the culprit of my flare up.

Absolutely it could cause you to flare. It's an NSAID just like Advil or Ibuprofen, which we aren't really supposed to take. My primary doctor doesn't get it either, he's told me take things like Naproxen in the past too. I refuse because I've almost bled to death after taking NSAIDS.

Seems like no one wants to give out pain medications anymore, all are afraid of getting in trouble and the whole addiction thing. Which doesn't help those of us with chronic pain conditions!

That makes me so angry! They would rather cause more problems. I quit taking the naproxen 2 days ago but darn my foot hurts! I got an appointment Tuesday to talk to him about it. Crohn's with a broken foot is not a good combo! Can barely make it to the restroom! I noticed I had ulcers for in my mouth that didn't heal with my last cimzia shot. So I knew something was up....

You can take Tylenol extra strength till you can get something else but yeah my surgeon said no motrin, Advil, etc. Be careful if you get a script for an opioid as they cause constipation and that can irritate your Crohns too.

aside from tylenol the only pain med that is ok is tramadol
it is not anywhere near as strong as other meds you may have been on but it will not cause the same detrimental GI issues as morphine type meds

generally NSAIDs are not advised in IBD patients as you clearly know

Soooo starting to feel better after no naproxen for almost a week now. Saw the doc today he xrayed my foot. It healed!!!!! Told him about the naproxen and he said yeah I'm glad you stopped it. You're a pro at this ibd thing.
Hopefully I will recover fully soon. I feel the ulcers everywhere....
