Hi Amy!
The only tests I had done were lots of CT scans (I also had an abscess which had to be drained so there was a lot of back and forth with the CT scans.) and an MRE. The MRE showed the inflammation/scarring which resulted in the need for the small bowel resection. I had some x-rays done and a EKG which are standards "tests" to prepare for surgery. Also a TON of blood work. Besides for that, there were no other tests. DON'T be nervous!! Staying positive is KEY. I was in the hospital for a month and a half and there was one week where all I did was cry because I was so miserable. It was probably the worst thing I could've done. Looking back, no it was not the best experience but it is over now and it really has changed my life in so many (positive) ways. I had my surgery on 4/15/16. It was an open surgery so recovery takes a bit longer than laparoscopic. I will say the first month or so I felt worse than I had before I had the surgery and that brought me down a bit. However, now about 9 weeks out, I am feeling SOO much better. I was really worried because I was told my bowel movements should be normal 3 weeks post-op and they were no where near normal until about a week or so ago. So I think the point I am trying to make is to be patient and listen to your body. You will heal beautifully if you take care of yourself. I am still not 100% but I am getting there. Also, don't be alarmed if you feel bouts of depression after your surgery. I was always such a happy person but after my surgery I felt so sad all the time for about a month. You're body is going through a traumatic experience so that is expected. Not saying that will happen to you but if it does, just know it's normal. I wish you much luck and a speedy recovery!! If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to message me! I want to help and support as many people as I can as I know I was in need of support more than ever the past few months.
