Hey

I've was on entocort 9 mg for about 6 weeks.
Monday my doc had me increase to 15 mg and I noticed that I am starting some some prednisone like symptoms.

Have you experienced this?

For those of you who have taken 15 mg, did you find it helpful?

EDIT: I wasn't too clear
I am getting big appetite (hurts to eat tho), very irritable, acne, insomnia, and joint pain. Also seems like I'm getting a bout of anxiety

As far as I know, Entocourt doesn't usually give the extreme side effects of Prednisone. Entocourt works almost solely in the TI. Maybe you're experiencing a milder version of the typical Prednisone effects though.

Yes, it can give you similar side effects to prednisone at higher doses. It wasn't that great for me, but that may have been for the reason 73monte gave - my disease is mostly in the colon. It did help me get off long-term use of prednisone.

15mg is the highest dose of Entocort that I've heard of - 9mg is the usual maximum. Not surprised you're having pred-like side-effects at that dose, particularly as you've already been on 9mg for quite a long time.

I took it for a maintenance drug and after a year or so did develop some of those side effects. Definitely tell your dr.

After being on 6mgs for many months I got similar side effects as Prednisone, not as dramatic as Prednisone but definitely noticeable.

I wasn't sure if I was going crazy glad for the reassurance.
My doc said they have been doing 15mg successfully in quite a bit of their patients

Im going to have to message him if no improvement?

15mg Entocort is a new thing to me. It's still probably safer than 30 or 40mg pred but obviously the higher the dose, the more leakage into the bloodstream (and hence pred-like side-effects) you will get.

Ya, new to me as well
Think it's working but I HATE steroids
Doc actually wanted me to do pred
But knowing my love of pred he increased entocort

I've always thought 9 mg is the maximum dose. I've never had a great appetite noŕ insomnia and acne on that dose. However, Entocort left me some goodies like tendinitis and osteoarthritis in my left knee. I have been on it for 5 years now. I'm now on 3 mg.

I noticed from your signature that you are on Remicade, too. I can't do Remicade without taking entocort. I tried to taper entocort but symptoms returned with vengeance.

Ya issue was I had small bowel inflammation and we didn't know it. So, it went untreated
Now trying to get that down so can stay on remicade.

I'm shocked they let you stay on entocort for so long. It's not exactly the best drug to be on. Have you doubled your remicade or increased frequency?

9mg would do the trick for me. but also guess there are weight to maximum mg ratios.
