stopping Humira

I've been taking Humira for the past 2 years. I recently as of 4 days ago stopped taking the medication due to the side effects were getting to me and the medication just stopped working. My doctor said I will most likely have withdrawal symptoms. Anyone have them and can explain the symptoms please? Also, I might switch to Remicade. Anybody go from Humira to Remicade and like it better? I am scared of the side effects Remicade will have and does it cause weight gain too? Humira made me gain 20lbs. I don't want to gain more weight.....Please help!

went the other way with no problems. no weight gain for me if anything a loss. untill i hit the steroid bottle heavy. side effects i had when i quit the humira before were just joint pain that roamed the knees and elbows and wrists and fingers. ;o)

Actually, biologics can make some gain weight. There's quite a few articles online about research results that do show weight gain. It doesn't cause it in everyone and they're not sure why it happens. I took Humira, Cimzia, and Remicaid. Hoping to go back on Cimzia soon. I like the convenience of doing the injections at home. The Remicaid infusions take too long and aren't nearly as convenient. I'd love for that to come in syringes : )

I stopped Humira in January, because of Crohn's Arthropathy. Been on predisone 10 mg daily to bring down the swelling and extreme pain in the joints, muscles and tendons. Still using the bath room way too many times daily, 15 - 17, chronic diarrhea. Wish you well, you should not gain weight stopping Humira, it may do the opposite.

Mmm I was never told of withdrawal symptoms either. What side effects of Humira are bothering you? about six months ago I switched from remicade to humira because the remicade was causing drug induced lupus. Humira seems to be working well for the crohns but they have added prednisone temporarily to help with the arthritis, looks like the next step is Imuran. I really liked Remicade, and even tho it was a pain to go get the infusion, I like meeting and talking with other people thave Crohns. It was nice to meet others. And it evenmakes you appreciate how blessed you are because a lot of others have had a much worse time. It really put things into perspective for me, meeting a man who didn't have options of biologic agents like we do now, like many in this forum. The surgeries for resection were and still are so risky, this particular man had so many resections, so much pain, so thin and pale, he looked like a young teenager but he was in his 30s, it was tragic. I'm lucky to have met him :)

I am feeling very blessed after reading the post. I was told back in 06 that I had Crohns. I had one flair up back in 2015. I had another beginning of this year that was really bad. I spent 8 days in the hospital. I was only on 1 drug (Balsalazide) at the time, now I am on that plus Humira. I have not noticed any difference being on the 2 drugs. I do have a new skin problem being on the Humira. I came to read the post because I am thinking about stopping the Humira. I believe I will stay on it a while longer until I am 100% certain. I read Crohns is a stress disease, I had a lot going on around the first of the year when the flair up happened. I had just accepted a new position on my job that took me from first shift to second, and I had just sold my house. Feeling much better, I have never had the pain I hear about with Crohns. The arthritis thing is new, I have a pain in my right side around the hip area. I just turned 56 in August so I am sure some of the arthritis is due that as well. My doctor is quick to write a prescription so I have not learned to trust her yet. Good to have a forum like this, glad I found it. Lets hold each other up in pray.

Humira Made me Gain weight too! I know it was the Humira because my daily life didn't change, I still go to the gym every day and eat a well-balanced diet, I still can't lose the weight. ugh. I noticed when I stopped taking the Humira, I started to lose the weight a little bit so there's that bit of good news, and just as others have said I noticed that I started to get really bad joint pains in my fingers, knees, hips, and shoulders. Advil helped a lot with the pain and it went away in about 3 weeks.
