Yeah, when IBD is found in the colon, it can sometimes be hard to tell whether it's Crohn's colitis or Ulcerative Colitis. Sometimes no amount of testing can determine which it is, and it's called "indeterminate colitis."
But when it's not in the colon but in the small intestine, it's most certainly not ulcerative colitis, or any form of colitis for that matter. It's either Crohn's disease or something else entirely.
And all IBD is idiopathic - because idiopathic means cause unknown, and the cause of IBD is still unknown. That's a strange term for a gastroenterologist to use.
