How is everyone doing? checking in

Ive been getting by and not on as much but wanted to stop by and ask how everyone has been holding up.

Hi! Sorry you have to have another resection. I've had 3 and hope no more. I just went back on Humira after being off of it for almost 2 years. I wasn't having Crohn's problems, but me arthritis pain was off the charts, so I decided I needed the Humira. Good luck with your surgery - Are you having incision or laporoscopy?

My first resection was open, due to i have gut malrotation and they did not know what to expect. the surgeon for this second one told me she will start with lapro and feels confident it can be done lapro. but of course will convert to open if necessary.

how was your second compared to the first? longer or shorter recovery time? how long in hospital?

@lamb and @sparkleplenty it really always is something Im sorry you both still have to deal with IBS. Have you tried any meds for it? there seem to be more out there than there used to be. I don't have IBS, I don't think, but when a flare is starting It mimics IBS so many of my previous doctors used to put me on meds for it (which did help until the flare out did the meds)

@Clo! so good to hear from you! I have been thinking of you as well! Oh my goodness that is absolutely horrendous, I'm so sorry! Definitely keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! I didn't know you could get shingles without chicken pox. How long have you had it? How late have you had to wait for remicade?

right now I am dealing with the joints in my hands aching but Im in a state of panic trying to finish a major project in which the majority of components are still not functioning and and I have to present it at the beginning of the week. That panic is enough adrenaline to hide and drown out the majority of my health issues. Im a little concerned though because its usually after episodes like this that I tank as soon as the pressure is off of me. so we shall see. Hopefully the remicade does its job well. so far so good.
made a date next month to have my wisdom teeth taken out so there is progress there and I'm off blood thinners until I go for hernia surgery in august, so thats good news.

I am glad that you are doing well. I agree that you will need to watch for the aftermath of the adrenaline rush you are on. That always seems when it gets me too.

I never knew that if you have never had chicken pox (and I haven't) and you are exposed to shingles you can not catch shingles but you can catch chicken pox. Hows that for a shocker!! My Remicade was scheduled almost a month ago. My spouse came down with shingles alittle over one week prior to my infusion. I called my GI and Infectious Disease specialist to ask if it was a big deal and they called off my infusion! And they had a fit about getting my blood work done to see if I had it. Apparently I did not have it as a child (IGg levels confirmed that) however the bloodwork showed the virus currently in my blood. I took antivirals for 10 or 14 days and went forblood work twice a week....and finally I show no active virus in my blood work...so although I was exposed I didn't actually have chicken pox because the antivirals killed it off before it replicated. So strange.

So tomorrow I finally get my infusion. We had just gone down to every 6 weeks so they said the timeframe is still good and there should not be any issues...so although it is late it isn't really that late.

And now the GI and infectious disease doctor are conflicted about the future. GI wants to leave it alone while the other wants vaccination for chicken pox or shingles....so I don't have to live in a bubble. Me....I just want my Remicade. It seems strange...ironic...that something I fought so hard not to take is now something I am now fighting to take....

I too went to a rummy...she has me on tumeric. 2000 mg per day max. It has helped tremendously but I am still in pain. We will have to wait and see... Darn Crohns.......

I am so glad that all of us seem to be hanging in there. It is just one breath at a time....
