Tattoos while on 6-MP

Hello Guys and Gals!

I am pretty sure I am getting two new tattoos this summer. One on my forearm and the other on my lower right leg. I am on 6-mp and just a bit curious about any risk?

Hello,

Well, your immune system will be lower than ususal.  Considering the skin/tissue damage caused during the procedure I rhink you will need to really watch it for infection.  Cellulitis is no joke.

What will they look like?  Why don't you get the temporary, wash-off ones instead?  devil

I have a MySpace Crohnie friend who got a new tattoo while on Humira... Don't know about 6-MP. I would ask your GI. I was considering getting an IUD for birth control, but they actually suggest against while on immune suppressants. So who knows what affects things. Might be just fine, but a call is easy enough.

Wish I had the guts and commitment to get a tattoo! I stick to henna because I can change my mind! ;-)

I don't know about 6mp but I asked my remicade nurse about getting my tattoos touched up and she said to have it done half way between my infusions

I am getting a louts flower on my inside forarm with the sanscrit for the tibetant chant "Om Mane Padme Hung"

And on my right leg I am getting a pheonix rising from ashes.

I have  another pheonix on my back. The phoenix is sentimental because I feel we are all like the pheonix when it comes to our Crohns disease...OUr body basicaly consumes itself for a time being. We are in pain and we are reduced to nothing...Then like the pheonix we rise again through remission to good health and happy days....Well at least that is my story (and Im sticking to it) LOL

I'm not sure. I got a tattoo last summer but I wasn't on anything.

I emailed my specialist IBD nurse about this, just got this reply

'Hi Fred,

You can have a tattoo, but you do need to go to somewhere reputable and be take all precautions they advise with regards to reducing infection risk.

Hope it doesn’t hurt too much.'

GI's use a form of a "tattoo", where they ink a section or spot on an intestine during endoscopy so they can find it again in a follow up scope. I've had several ... the medical teams seem to get a kick out of telling patients they just got a tattoo ....

We've had a number of posters get tattoos while being immune suppressed on the UC forum, no worries at all. I know Sherry (Red_34 a mod) has gotten a few cool tattoos and she is on at least remicade and maybe 6mp, I can't recall. Another poster with a username of Scum1 posted a number of pics of his tattoos while on biologics. Those are the two that immediately come to mind, but I know there were quite a number of others too.
