Hey guys, been gone awhile (as I’m prone to). Went into remission for about
5 years after my first bowel resection. It came back maybe 2 years ago but hasn’t gotten bad again yet so I’m just maintaining on pentasa for now. Met a boy, got married, got pregnant 😍😍 Now as D day gets closer I’m getting freaked out. Even without Crohns I’d be mortified by the possibility of pooping during delivery and tons of people (none of whom have Crohns) have told me it’s no big deal. However, you guys know there is a BIG difference between Crohns poops and regular people poops lol. One doctor told me I’m ok to take Imodium occasionally while pregnant if needed. My current plan is to have some Imodium in our hospital bag, at home, and in my purse and to take it as soon as I go into labor but I have no idea if this will help. Anyone else given birth with active Crohns? Anyone tried taking Imodium before and did it help? Or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!! ❤️

Honestly, you should probably want to stick with leaving things as they are. Labor causes major compression of the bowels, and you end up really constipated. Many women will tell you that the first bm after giving birth is more painful and requires more pushing than the actual birth! I even had one friend who didn't have a bm for several days afterwards (she lied to the nurse so she could go home), and ended up having to use her finger to fish it out of her. :/

I just know most women also get constipated especially toward the end of their pregnancy but I’m definitely not there. Maybe the epidural blocks them up a bit? Like how narcotics can for some people. I guess I’ll discuss it further with my OB

I may have had crohns while pregnant but didnt know it at the time just thought i had ibs or something an with any blood i thought internal hemorroids i didnt want to get it checked out, so probably had crohns but didnt know was very mild anyway,, I dont think i pooed myself although i did worry about
that as all people who know it can happen worry, i told the midwife while in labour im scared im gonna poo myself she told me i wont, but im sure i didnt but if i did they cleaned it up so quickly i didnt notice, they have seen everything anyway sometimes babies born covered in poo as they have done it in the womb,, its not a big deal if you do it but you may not even do it or know about
it if you do

Would not recommend the immodium while in labour. During labour your stomach stops digesting and you will puke it up. As a nurse we see everything. Don't worry about
poop. As the saying goes crap happens. Focus on your birth plan, breathing, and pain management. Once you go into labour trust me the last thing on your mind is evacuation of your bowels. Blessing for a quick easy birth!
