Stelera, Humira or Entyvio

I've been given the option to choose one of these medications (Stelera, Humira or Entyvio). I can't go on Remicade because I've already been on it previously. I just was hoping to know which one has worked for you guys and which ones haven't worked (and why - symptoms etc?)

I am slightly nervous about Humira because despite being prodded and pricked with needles my entire life I am still squeamish and worried about injecting myself. Also I know that Entyvio (Vedolizumab) is very new and a bit experimental so wondering if anyone has had any experience with this? It makes me a bit nervous that it's so new.

I'd love to hear your experiences and opinions about these.

I also have Psoriasis, not sure if this makes any difference. (I've read that Stelera can develop skin conditions in those with psoriasis.)

I would recommend going with Stelara or Entyvio. Humira is the same type of drug as Remicade (anti-TNF), so it's probably not going to be as effective for you since you've already tried Remicade and it didn't work.

As for skin conditions, I also have psoriasis. When I started taking Remicade, the psoriasis I had on my knees, elbows, and scalp went away. But then small patches started showing up in other places. It hasn't been too bad for me. The new patches are small and tend to not stick around for too long.

Hi Samantha, out of the three I would go with Stelara. It works completely different than the others, it's not a TNF blocker. We have some members that post from time to time that are very happy with it compared to the others. It seems to have a faster response time. Both Humira & Entyvio are slow starters. I went from Remicade to Humira. Humira caused my psoriasis to go full bloom, it was horrible.

I would have to also cast my vote for Stelara. Can't base that recommendation on experience though, but the reviews have really out shone the others. It's even rivaling Remicade, so that would be my choice.

Stelara worked very fast for me. One of the knocks against Entyvio is that it is slow acting but is marketed as being safer because it is released in the gut (I'm not sure how true the safety part is).

The other thing is that Entyvio was released for UC first because I think it was developed for and was better at treating UC than CD. Stelara was released for CD first and then just recently approved for UC but was originally developed and released for Psoriasis.

Stelara is an auto-self injection. You could have your doctors office do it every 8 weeks (6-7 injections a year). Humira is usually weekly or biweekly depending on your needs.

Stelara is a small needle and doesn’t burn like Humira’s injector.

I inject into the middle of my thigh.

Humira doesn't burn anymore (at least it never has for me). They got rid of the citrate in it that apparently caused the burning.

No, it does not burn when it is injected. It is a very tiny needle, just a little larger than a b12 or insulin needle.

So does Stelara not have injection pens like Humira? Just curious since I might start on it in about a month. OP, I'd probably go with Stelara if I were you.

Stelara is much smaller than the Humira injector pen. It is actually the same injector as Simponi.

Hey Sam...I vote Stelara all the way. I get my injection in the clinic. It’s very convenient & painless. I’m sure you heard me screaming all the way to....Scotland with 4 weekly Humira injections, which did nothing for me at all.

Only issue now is joint pain....I’m not sure about whether it’s actually causing physical & permanent damage to my knees. I have no other medication options so I’m in a pickle. Hoping X-rays will shed light.

I would do the injector around my belly button and it would STING. I guess it is fine now without the citrate buffer in it.

If Humira worked for me then I would have been fine with the stinging but all it did was give me dry-mouth and maybe me itchy. I hated the stuff.

Yeah, I don't think it's doing crap for me and I'm paranoid that it gave me a severe terrifying migraine a month ago. And last night I had another very weird issue where I kept feeling like I was going to faint/pass out all night long. I have no idea it either are caused by the Humira though, might be a coincidence, but it makes me wonder. Honestly, I'm ready to start Stelara. I'm giving it two more weeks.
