A little over a week ago, I had my tonsils removed due to chronic infections. I am a 28 year male, so I was told that my recovery may be a little more rough, especially since I am treating my crohn's with a huge dose of remicade every month. Well, from the start I was really sick and in a large amount of pain, but I expected this due to what my doctor had told me. After 3 days, I began to breakout all over my face with large red pimples. I looked like I was a teenager all over again, but when I would try to pop these painful pimples, there was only a little white pus and a ton of clear drainage and blood that would not stop coming out. After an hour of being popped, a yellow crust and scab would quickly form, but the fluid would keep draining never allowing the would to fully close. Every day, more of these now boils started showing up on my face, back, backside( it hurts to sit), and arms. I also began to have chills and nasty sweats everytime I would fall alseep, even if it was for 10 minutes. I was sweating so much that not only were my clothes wet, but my sheets, bed, and pillows were dripping wet to the core.(It was discusting)
Because most of this became severe over the weekend, I waited until monday to call my surgeon. His nurse that took my message just told him that I had a rash, so he had me come in the next day. When I got to his office, I was not in there for 1 minute before he told me that I have a staph infection. He asked me why I didn't tell his nurse about the cold sweats and the chills, and I explained to him that I had told her. He was upset, because he would have had me come in right that moment. He is almost positive that it is a form of resistant staph call MRSA staph infection, but he took a culture to make sure before he hospilizes me and starts me on I.V. antibiotics.
This has really made me nervous that I am in for a long sickness. I am on 6-mp and remicade 10 every month, so I have a compromised immune system. I am sorry that this is long, but I am really curious if anyone of you have ever had a similar situation or MRSA staph infection with your Crohn's disease? How long did you take to recover from it? Were you hospitalized and for how long? My dad spent 3 weeks in the hospital for this same staph infection with his diabetes, so I am hoping that it won't lead to the same outcome. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
