Mt. Siani in NYC

Has anyone been to Mt. Siani in NYC as I heard that the doctors there are awesome? If so what doctors are good and what are their thoeries and meds that tey prescribe? Is it top down or botttom up?

I saw Dr. Lloyd Mayer last Monday. He reviewed 3 cat scans and told me he had a hard time viewing the terminal ileum and the narrowing. Suggested another one at Mt. Sinai. He wanted his pathologist to review slides so I am awaiting to hear from him this week. There were alot of holidays last week so I didn't get answers to what I need. He didn't change my meds around yet. I hope I will hear from him this week as I need answers and I am newly diagnosed 3 weeks ago.
Do you live in NY city? I am out on Long Island. Good luck

I am from NJ but looking for a good sound doctor who is willing to look outside the box.

i've had surgery at mt. sinai and have a doctor there (but i only saw him twice out of necessity b/c i was switching doctors. i won't recommend him b/c he wasn't my top choice and he's was what i like to call an "ibs doctor"..meaning he's good with basic stuff but that's about it). anyone you choose at mt. sinai is excellent, but if you go to their websites you can see which gastros have particular clinical interests.

if you are a patient at mt. sinai, you will have access to the latest theories and treatment ideas. for example, one idea that's gaining popularity is the use of botex injections to prevent further scarring and stenosis. they have all the latest research...mostly because its a teaching/research hospital.

you won't find a doctor who is willing to "look outside the box" at mt. sinai, you're going to find a doctor who is cutting-edge. huge difference..

I liked Dr. Mayer. I also went to see Dr. Scherl at Cornell. Both unfortunately do not take insurance. Dr. Mayer just called 10pm tonight to tell me he looked at the pathology slides and says it is ileitis. Wants to look at CRP levels since they are not elevated. Doesn't think I would respond to remicade. Doesn't have all the info to tell me what treatment path we are taking to get rid of inflammation but says bottom line I will get on 6mp for maintenance. Dr. Scherl also wanted to review CAT scans and come up with her course of treatment based on narrowing of ti. I am not sure if I can tell you about either of them yet as I only had one appt with both and am awaiting further direction. Wish I could help. Perhaps someone else has seen Dr. Mayer.???

cbk & nikki, Do you are have you gone to see doctors at Mt. Saini? You have given me some interesting things to think about like cuting edge treatments.

I did see Dr. Mayer in person a week ago Monday but due to the holidays my test results and pathology are still not back. He called me two nites ago. He sounds good. I will let you know his approach as soon as I hear back from him.

I went there 10 years ago & saw David B Sachar, MD - http://www.mountsinai.org/hso/hso_frame.jsp?nav=faddetail&Doctor_id=664&hosp=msh - Byfar the smartest & most engaging doctor I have seen imho.

This guy did my 3 resection surgery Adrian J Greenstein - http://www.mountsinai.org/hso/hso_frame.jsp?nav=faddetail&Doctor_id=720&hosp=msh - he did great by me.
When I need surgery again that is the place i will go.

also had Greenstein for small bowel resection this Spring - liked him very much and would recommend him..Present, Chapman, Marion and Steinlauf are also a top Sinai gastro practice..they don't take insurance though...a consultation may run a few hundred bucks (without tests),  but depending on disease severity and finances - it may be worth a consultation with one of them and then work with a doctor who takes your insurance

I see Dr Marion  there and really like him. Very personable, extremely knowledgable and always very encouraging. I feel like I am in really good hands.
