Hello fellow Canadians,
I am on a social assistance disability .....many , many of my meds are not covered. I am presently fairly well maintained on Sulfasalazine and Pantaloc, but wonder what would happen if I needed Humira or Pred.
I presently have a serious pneumonia. The attending physician prescribed an antibiotic. Got to the pharmacist who informs me that this med is one of the best for the type of pneumonia I have but it isn't covered, and very expensive. So he called the DR. who re-ordered one of the cheaper run of the mill antibiotic, that we poor folks have to make due with. He says it will take me twice as long to get better.
How are other canadians managing ....esp. on a disablility type coverage. Does it vary from province to province? I am worried because a sinus infection typically leads to a pneumonia which typically leads to another flare with me. I've only been on disability for the past 4 years so have yet to deal with the bureaucratic /pharmaceutical end of things\
