Hey everyone,

I have been bleeding since August 11...2 months tomorrow!  I'm feeling well enough now, but seriously, how long is too long?  It's starting to worry me because it's several times a day, everyday.  I am trying to get into a new specialist, since the one I currently have I haven't been happy with, they solidified that by totally ignoring me, and cancelling an appt. when I really needed them!  The problem is here in Calgary the wait for urgent care is 12 months!!!  They can't put me as urgent because I already have a GI...there is a new Dr setting up here at the end of the month, and we are hoping that I'll get in by the end of November.........Has anyone bled for this long?  And does this means that I'm damaging my insides the longer this goes on?  My Family doc is sending me for blood work to check my iron levels, but is that all i should be worrying about?  This has NEVER happened to me, and I've been on my meds for 3 years now!!  What the heck!?

Thanks for listening :-)    Any comments/suggestions are very much appreciated.

Hi Paula Hope you get in to see the new specialist. I don't have the bleeding thing but it must be a little frightening. It is good your getting your B12 tested. I am hoping things will work out for you soon. Keep in touch and let us know how your doing. Maybe someone who is going threw this will jump in here and tell you how they are coping. lol gail

Defiantly no, i never bleed for that long something is really wrong for sure. That Doctor should have you admitted in the hospital fixing you up as soon as possible. Friggin Doctor's some don't have a clue. I'm surprised that your family doctor hasn't admitted you yet. I hope you get your new specialist very soon. Try having hot baths that might slow the bleeding it works for me sometimes on a flare up. Good luck to you Paula and keep us posted.Take care

Hi Paula i bleed pretty constantly as well but some times it is actually hemmies that are bleeding and not the disease although in saying that i do have rectal and terminal ileum disease which has apparently been bleeding a fair bit. Perhaps u need some colifoam or something similar to help with the bleeding. I would be talking with my regular doc about pulling some strings to get u in to see the GI sooner. I hope u get some relief soon and u shouldnt need to wait 12 months. take care and keep us posted

right now i am having a lot if blood on a daliy basis from fissures that i have. before i was first diagnosed i had severe bleeding for months that my primary had decided was from hemmies but was actually my crohns. obviously i cant tell you what yours is but bleeding is never good and you whould get it checked out when you can. i know youre in a bind and im sorry but maybe the ER?

Thanks everyone...it is nice to hear from a few people since I've never had this happen before, I'lll admit it's a little scary.  I am positive that I don't have hemmorriods.  I honestly can't believe that it hasn't stopped yet...I'll have one regular looking bm (with blood of course) first thing in the morning, and then the rest of my day no matter even if I've not gone to the bathroom with that intention, I always get blood and mucous coming out....it has also started to come on really urgent which I've never really worrried about either, now I find myself running sad and then for all of that panic....not much!!???  Also a great sense of major pressure down there after I go?  I am going on Monday to have my iron levels checked, but should I be worried about more than that?

paula, the real problem with bleeding is that it's nearly impossible to determine where it's coming from without a scope. Atthis point, your Family Doc should be pushing someone, anyone to get a scope on you ASAP. Often, we get internal hemmies which are not obvious fromt heoutside. You'd have no way of knowing that they are there.

Your family Doc could also script you some of the rectal meds, like a mesalamine suppository or enema or cortifaom to see if treating the rectal area would help treat the bleeding. Of course he might be reluctant to do that without knowing what's going on inside. That brings us back to enlisting him to help you get a scope ASAP.

As long as the bleeding continues, he should also be doing CBCs and your B12, Folate and iron levels to ensure that you are not becoming anemic. If that happens, it might be worth it to have him admit you to the hospital just so you can get the appropriate testing done without the long delays.

I hope you find answers and can stop the bleeding soon.

Your family doc can also do an office procedure called anoscopy to look for fissure/ulcer/roids that may be the source. Its a clear "funnel"-like device, a couple inches long. You get the idea.

Keah...I have been taking my suppositories(Salofalk) again, and they aren't doing a thing for it.  I know in the past they would take care of whatever "extra" issues I was having, I also take on a daily basis 2 salofalk 4x/day.  I've been taking those for almost 3 yrs now, and never bled, except for when my GI has tried to wean me off of them?  Now I'm bleeding from out of nowhere for this long?  I really thought that the supp. would work or at least help.  The frequency and urgency of B.M all of a sudden are a worry too...I've never been one that needs to worry about several trips to the bathroom, or if I'll make it there!

I know that my family doc is off on Mondays, I guess that I should try and call tomorrow to push the issue again...it's really sad when you really need a doctor, you find yourself waiting and feeling a little alone.  I have always been one who waits things out and doesn't run or call the min. something is happening...shouldn't that count for something!?  confused

poohbah...thanks for the idea of the anoscopy, maybe she'd be willing to take a look while we're waiting for this appt.
