Does everybody here got first diagnose with IBS?

Hi when I was first diagnosed with CD there was no misdiagnose.

I was diagnoised w/ IBS by a physicians assistant, but the diagnosis was changed -- they knew w/in a few weeks something else was wrong but it took another 6 months before I got a solid diagnoisis...

I was diagnosed with IBS in around April 1993 by my G.P, then after all the exploratory tests, was diagnosed Crohn's by consultant in March 1994.

Was never diagnosed with IBS, and believe me they tried to diagnose me with just about everything but CD. Looking back, it's funny they never did.

No....I was DX immediately, afterall it was pretty obvious since at the time it was in my TI, colon, rectom and anus.

However 12ish yrs later my GI believed I then also developed IBS as well as having crohns...he said it was common especially for cases like me, constant flare in my entire time of having the disease can easily bring on an irritated bowel (disfunction).

I was diagnosed with IBS about 4 years before my doc discovered I had CD. Don't know if it was CD all along and misdiagnosed as IBS or had IBS which turned into CD. I don't think it's uncommon though to have IBS turn into CD.

My diagnosis started off pretty interestingly..
I went to an urgent care place here in town because I had been bleeding and had D for weeks at that time. The doctor there totally had NO idea what was going on. Of course she told me about having possible bleeding hemorrhoids, I told her that I knew what those felt like and was pretty sure that I had none. She then went on to tell me that it may be possible that I was bleeding due to having sex in the wrong end.. Which I told her that wasn't happening and the bleeding was a lot more than that would cause, she was convinced that was the reason and she obviously has a much more adventurous sex life than I do.. I was so upset when I left that appointment. I can't believe a moron like that has her medical license.
I than made an appointment with a more competent doctor and we went through the motions of ruling out infections and then I was referred to my current gastro. We thought that I had UC for a year.. until my most recent flare up that put me in the hospital for a week and the rest is history.. for now.

I diagnosed myself with IBS. My doctor on the other hand immediately knew I had Crohn's and did a number of tests to verify. No doubt once those tests came back, further more, I had surgery a month later. I had an obstruction and a perforation.

i was diagnosed with ibs by my pcp after an ultrasound of my belly, and an upper gi...which only showed i had acid reflux. that was in 2004.....got my cd dx in april of 2007.....i believe it was cd back then because i had the joint pain and swelling in 2004 also. My pcp was totally confused......so now i'm a firm believer in second opinions.

I beleive each of you as a long and difficult relationship with their digestive tract.

I had so much test and i'm not accepting the IBS garbage diagnosis.
When they did my colonoscopy 8 years ago he only manage to scope less than 3 feet.
The gastroscopy also was bad because of my gagging and choking.Is it possible to get a good gastroscopy in 3-4 minutes including biopsy?!?

I'm concern about my cecum hypomotility where trapped gas accumulate.

This pain irradiate my rigth side and few years ago,my knee swelled from a arthritic reaction.

FLUIDS GOT REMOVED.I still feel that it could come back.Again,i know the "infflamation" is coming from the cecum.

Recent barium enema and small bowel are normal.

I was told by my gyn that I probably had crohn's in 1997 and by a rheumatologist in 2004. At both of these times I had no gi symptoms other than abdominal pain and also had arthritic type symptoms. In 2004 (just after I saw the rheumatologist because of an inflammatory arthritis in my knee) a gi doctor told me I had IBS "with a rheumatological problem" despite all rheumatology tests being negative. I didn't believe it then but it took me 3 years to get up the energy to get another opinion with a new gi. He never used the term "IBS" but after a successful trial of pentasa has diagnosed me with IBD-indeterminate, probably CD of the small intestine. The reason it took me 3 years to get another opinion was that I knew I was not going to believe any doctor who told me it was IBS, so why bother? It wasn't until I had surgery in January for another problem that my gi symptoms really escalated and my primary care NP convinced me to try again with a new gi doctor.

My advice for anyone getting a diagnosis of IBS and you think otherwise ASK to try an IBD medication to see how you respond. It was the second gi doc who said he would do this but at the last minute changed his mind and called it IBS . that was what gave me the idea to ask the third doctor to try a medication specific for crohn's. What could he say besides No?
