As to what the heck to do with all these empty medicine bottles.  There has got to be a craft of some type I could throw in a yard sale.  Hate to see them go to waste.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing. My father uses old photography film canisters (rare now??) for fishing flies. Find a fisherman? (sorry, fisherperson - or is it just fisher?)

Maybe the pharmacies need to come up with a recycling program. They're always in perfect condition when the bottle is empty. If they could clean and sterilize them they'd be good as new.

Give them to some neighbour kid...if they're see-through then tell the kid to use them as bug collectors or something....just make sure they're washed out first.

I use my bigger empties for mixing paint...its great..when I'm done I just close up the lid and don't waist any paint.

Wow, I'm impressed with the suggestions you all have given...made me think I'm gonna hang onto my empty RX bottles now...haha. I usually keep a few of them to put small nails in, or push pins, buttons, coins, small things that get lost easily. I love the suggestion that heatmiser made about the pharmacies implementing a recycling program. I have never heard of this being done but the pharmacies really, really should look into starting a recycling program, it's better for the environment and cheaper for them. I wonder, since the RX bottles and lids are plastic, if they could be rinsed out and put to curb with regular recyclable items like soda bottles and milk jugs are? Just a thought? Great ideas!

Im a colostomy bag wearer and regulary get magazines with info for ostomies.
In one magazine there was an article on a woman who is a fashion designer student.
With all the faulty (un-used!!!!!!) bags from suppliers, she used as fabric for shoes!!

Us ostomies are always trying to find the perfect accessory to match our bags.....our prayers answered lol.
Im just waiting for the matching ear-rings , necklace etc etc lol.

the pill bottle bottoms on my bottles show thw recycle symbol on them so mine can be recycled

Here's an idea for a cute inexpensive Valentine treat for family and friends. I wash out empty prescription bottles and remove the labels. Then I fill them with Hershey's Hugs and chocolate Kisses. I make a label from paper that reads "Rx for a Happy Valentine's Day, lots of hugs and kisses!" and tape it onto the bottle. A unique little gift and a way to recycle those prescription bottles!

There is a website called ChronicBabe that does a newsletter for ladies with chronic illnesses. At some point she was collecting empty pill bottles for something she was working on. You could google her and see if she ever posted what she did with it. I know a couple people that used empty film canisters to carry some sunscreen with them without carrying the whole bottle. You could use your small containers for that. However, us crohnies usually have the huge bottles. I haven't come up w/ a use for mine either and just stick em on the curb w/ all my other recyclables.

I peel the labels and toss them inthe recycling. I'll have to give somethought to othr ideas. I like the hershey's kises one. I have a few bottles big enough for that and the Pentasa bottles don't even look like real pill bottles.

Oh, I just remembered...my mother used to know a woman who collected the empty pill bottles for the local animal shelter. They would use them when they had to dispense meds for pets.

some really great ideas here, its always good to re-cycle if we can, it would be so much easier though if they were in clear plastic, especially to easily identify those tiny coloured beads crafts people use, I guess the next best thing is to glue one of the beads to the lid then its easily identified. I'm going to try that myself.

The bottles in which my pentasa is dispensed are just the right size to make a perfect diffuser for my speedlight flash (Nikon). Since I started sporting this homemade diffuser, several friends have asked and I have graciously supplied them. A diffuser reduces the harsh shadows created in photos from direct flash photography. Sometimes you can redirect the flash unit so that it bounces light off a wall to achieve the same effect, but there are many instances (in churches or outdoors for example) when that doesn't work.

You can buy a professional version of the same thing, but it costs upwards of $50.

When I was a kid I used film canisters to take chocolate milk powder to school in. Of course this was before you could buy chocolate milk at school. But with the labels off you could use smaller bottles to take powders, spices, herbs, loose tea and the like for camping or traveling.

I remember using filling them with rice, gluing the cap on, and then covering the bottle with colored contact paper (that stuff you line you cupboard shelves with). They make fun rattles... put different things inside to change the sound.

For those of you throwing your pill bottles into your recycling bin,

be sure to check your city's recycling regulations first. You need to see which types of plastic are being recycled. In my area, the city accepts recyclable plastics marked "1", "2", and "3" only (look for the number inside the little triangle on the bottom of a bottle; the numbers are codes for the type of plastic of which the bottle is made). Many pill bottles are marked "5", which is a type that can be more difficult to recycle so not all municipalities accept it.

My hubby is in construction. He uses my big Pentasa bottles to hold the brads/nails that are smaller and he only keeps a few of. He has a big white row of them on his workbench!
The spice idea is good! We mix our own steak seasonings and don't always have an empty spice bottle to hold them.
I love gardening and found a use for the Pentasa "jugs" there---MiracleGro crystals do not like to get damp. When i get a fresh big box, I separate it into several bottles so I don't get moisture in the whole amount each time I open it. Smaller Rx bottles are good for collecting seeds from your garden to plant next year.
