I will make it without the bed pan! My mantra for tomorrow

I have to have a liver biopsy at 9am.  I am expected to lay absoutely still for four hours.

I am saying as my mantra "I will make it without a bed pan"

I have done a lot of things, but never the bed pan.

Any tips on getting through this?

I hate to take preemptive meds but I think it'll have to be done.  I can't risk a big D event tomorrow and things like this usually give me major D.

Sending you positive thoughts so that you don't get any D tomorrow during your biopsy...you will do great. What are they doing a liver biopsy for?

Elevated enzymes, abnormal ultrasound and positive for autoimmune hepatitis antibodies.

Hi Kathy Not sure how a person does it but tell us how you did it afterwards .Somhow we get threw moments like that .Maybe they"ll give you some music or a movie to watch. Just wishing you all the best .lol gail

Just a warning- if you are going to take premptive meds, get that first poop of the day out first! Otherwise you can get lots of cramps when the normal stuff tries to get out. Also allow time to move around to get the first one moving before you have to leave the house. Id be really nervous too. I pee a ton as well and dont think I could go that long. But, are you going to be sedated? That will probably really help!

No sedation! I know! I want sedation. It's like that song, I wanna be sedated.

What to do...what to do... I guess up my enema tonight that will help maybe keep things firmer.

Then, get up early and see if I can move it on out and then take Immodium to carry me through the morning.

I had gotten to where I try to never use Immodium but 4 hours trapped in a bed, I've got to do something.

I agree, the majority needs to move first before preventatives!

O good Luck to you.....Don't you just dread these awful tests? Take the immodium, if anything it might put your mind at ease....if you sit there worrying about pooping for 4 hours...the worrying alone will put your poor tummy in knots and you know where that goes.....
As for using a bed-pan....it certainly isn't any fun...some might call it the epitomy of embarrassements but for us crohnies who usually have far funnier stories to tell....what's a little bed pan to us...piece of cake. It's all routine to the ppl who run these tests and health care workers....one poop is as good as the next....it really doesn't fiz them all that much. Take it from someone who used to empty the things as a Registered Nurse. It's no biggy! Try to relax. Maybe bring your i-pod or MP3 and try not to worry. My strategy is to always try to turn the attention away from myself and put it on someone else. I try to find out as much as I can about the "attendant" or nurse or technician that is with me. People love to talk about themselves most of the time....and you might make a new allie in the process.

Anyway, Good luck dear one....I will be thinking and praying for a "panless" day for you....and for good results from your test.

I understand! Don't worry about it if you must use it. I had an "accident" in the ER. A nurse had to come clean me up. That's embarassing. But she was real nice and was more empathetic than anything. I think Marie-Claire is right, it doesn't bother them too much. I know I couldn't do it. Hope everything goes well with your tests.

Well I made it through the day, but had to pee, a lot! grrrrrrr

Got up early and of course no bowels were moving! Took the immodium cause I knew I needed help. Started pooping after the Immodium! Had to use bathroom in ER twice.

They put me on the table around 9:30 and I was not allowed up until 4:30! omg!

The immodium got my rear through it, but had to pee so so bad. Finally asked for one and of course could not start. Finally did some.

Then, had to pee more........asked again and went easier.

But, I think I couldn't fully pee laying down, so the urge was constant, plus I suddenly was a reservoir, durn Immodium!

But ! got home and oh no! revenge of the Immodium. Here I am trying not to "strain the abdominal area" and poop poop poop with cramps and gas.

So glad the day is over!

Proud of you! Peeing while you''re on your back isn't easy. The day is done and you made it ! Hurray !

As for the Immodium giving you a "push" for your money(lol) I guess we crohnies always have to decide which is the worse of two 'evils". Colace might help if you are really constipated now. Geez...can't win, can we. Oh well, we rejoice in the small triumphs, and not pooping in the bed pan was a biggy for you so I'm glad that didn't happen. Although, I would think that "missing the bedpan" would be worse than hitting it. LOL
