The link isn't working....but just going from your topic heading, I don't think it's all in our minds when the inflammation shows up in the colonoscopies and other tests...I agree the mind is a very powerful thing but even it's capabilities can only go so far.

I know with IBS patients they are often told (especially since there's no sign of diseased intestines) that their symptoms were all in their minds, infact many people were told they were crazy and because tests showed the intestines looking normal yet they were complaining of D and C docs would often (and likely still do) send sufferers away making them believe it's all in their heads when infact it's not necessarily the case...there is definitely a mind-gut connection but I don't know if anyone has been able to figure that aspect of it out in order to find a way to cure not only IBDers but IBSers as well...sure would like to read the article though, sounds intriguing.

You can copy and paste the link into your browser. I didn't actually mean our suffering is a figment of our imagination. I know the inflammation is real. It's just that in the article they say the mind-body connection could be responsible for the inflammation.

I thought maybe this would be about hypnosis or something, but this is fantastic, thanks for posting that link, copying and pasting worked.

I sure hope they strongly move ahead with this research and hopefully make big leaps and bounds to getting this all figured out for us...who knows maybe it'll open new doors for IBSers as well.

it seems pretty obvious that the brain is used in everything. when we get sick we dont FEEL sick until the brain recognizes this. how does this indicate the "mind-body connection could be responsible for the inflammation." does it just not show a connection and nothing else?  the brain is responding to a trigger, thus it is not a cause. sounds like an article promoting doping us up on "uppers" and hoping that will keep us from pushing them forward faster. i wish i could read it.

Well, everything is used for everything else in the body.  The brain needs the gut, the gut needs the skin, the eyes need the gut, the skin needs the skeleton, and so on and so forth. 

They've done studies showing that if they remove an entire intestine and cut off its vascular and nerve supply, it will continue to contract on its own.  It's like the heart in that way.  Of course, this doesn't occur for very long, but it does prove that the good ol' tum-tum has some of its own regulatory factors.
