hi peeps..
i am not sure how much they have showed on the National news yet, but it seems like almost all of california is on fire right now....
They just ordered mandatory evacuations for parts of Castaic, including the Middle school i went to. My parents home is in Castaic and is less than 1/2 a mile from the flames, with winds gusts up to 80 mph...
it feels apocalyptic outside with all the wind and smoke...
I have a close friend whose family was one of the first to lose their house last night...it is just so sad.
I wanted to ask you all to include us Californians in your prayers
Thanks,
Gladbag aka Nat

Yeah I am in the San Diego area, but I am safe. My daughters best friend is being forced to stay at work and she works in the San Marcos area. I think her boss is going to have to give in soon. They are evacuating all around her. JudyK89 are you okay in your area????? I just so happen to be home sick today, but I got emergency phone calls from work to check in to make sure I am okay. Its crazy in San Diego. We have 9 different fires going on now, we definetly need everyones prayers. We are having Santa Winds fueling the fires, its really bad.

I saw the pics, I remember when I lived in gilroy and my family was in RI. RI is a tiny little state so you hear something is happeneing in the state they think it means all over. My thoughts and prayers are with you and those in that area. Hope those winds die down soon and things get under control

i live in san diego and it is pretty gnarly. there are a lot of road and fwy closures and it seems every few hours more places are being evacuated. one official this morning said he wouldnt be surprised if one or more of the 7 fires raging here right now made it to the coast. this is supposed to be a lot worse than the cedar fire we had like 3 or 4 years ago.
if you look on a map, locate the 15 fwy and basically if you live east of it you've been evacuated and chances are your home has burned. the entire 15 fwy is closed (as of the time i type this) and the fire has jumped it in certain places, moving west as it gets blown that way from the heavy santa ana winds. they cant use planes to dump water cos of the low visibility and heavy winds. we are waiting for fire units from all over the state to arrive and the governator has declared so cal in a state of emergency.
i dont know how how oc or la is doing, but i hear they got their share of fires too.
due to the fires i got the day off work today (and probably tomorrow too) since the mayor ordered everyone to stay inside and off the fwys. thousands of people have been evacuated, even some of my friends. the place i was living in back in january was under mandatory evacuations this morning. good thing i moved, even though it is only like 10 min south! but i should be fine. living by the coast (la jolla) has the perk of basically all of san diego must burn before it gets to me. it just sucks that we have a decent swell and santa ana winds making for good conditions but with such poor air quality and visibility it aint worth going out. oh well.

Hey Crazy I am in the Chula Vista area. But as I stated before I am safe. My daughter just moved here from Arizona about
3 mos ago and she is freaking out at work and just wants to go home. She's in the Mira Mesa area right now, but lives in PB. She's worried about
getting home and all the freeway traffic. Hope all our California Crohnies are okay. If all possible if you could all check in that would be great.

nanners - i hear the outskirts of chula vista are seeing some trouble now. i hope it is just precautionary like the scripps ranch evacuation. you're daughter should be able to get home no problem. the fwy's are basically empty (check sigalert
.com) and have been all day. should be same for tomorrow. the mayor wants us all to stay home and not use the fwy's. fine by me. i have a major licensing exam to study for so this fire is kinda a good thing for me in that i got today and now tomorrow off from work to use as crunch time study. but hey, i'd rather give these days back if it could mean this devastation would all be avoided.
i heard we're getting like 1,500 national guard troops to help the police and fire and crack down on any potential looting. good. i hate those people. how low.
i talked to my aunt up in oc (el toro) and she told me that fires are all over the place (i seem to only get local news...). multiple fires in irvine, los angeles, riverside, ontario, and even santa barbara - the whole southern half of the state is burning!

Got family in Riverside myself...let me know if you guys here anything that way...tough week at work and I don't always catch the news until 9-12 hours later myself!
Thoughts & Prayers to all in CA! Saw some footage this a.m. and it sure isn't a pretty sight!
Try and stay safe and do what the authorities tell you when it comes to evacuations.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all in California. I can't imagine the worry for you living so close to those fires. I hadn't seen the news yet.....my mom called me here on Vancouver Island all the way from Northern Ontario to tell me to watch the news. She is praying for you as well.
I come from a small town near Hudson Bay, that has been wiped out by forest fires more than once in its existence. My grandfather and his family escaped by spending the night in the river.
I am so sorry and hope things turn around soon.

My prayers are with you! Please think ahead about
what you need for your crohns if you do evacuate. I had some one come to my door one day and say "there is a gas leak, you have to evacuate." I grabbed my dog and my backpack (full of school books!) and out I went. Luckily we were let back in an hour later. But, I wish I had a list of things to grab. Medication, the cat, dog food, cat food, my safe, etc. It looks like this could displace people for awhile. Maybe you should order up some extra meds or grab a paper version of you RX. I think you said you have a bag so make sure you have plenty of those supplies handy. I doubt they would have that stuff at a shelter. Good luck!

My uncle is in an evacuated area. He stayed to try to keep his house from burning but sent my aunt and baby cousin away. Last night he was puting out hot spots in his yard but so far so good. few other neighbors close by were doing the same. we here in montana just went thru this a couple months ago. alot of evacuations near my home and work. some houses burnt but not like in cali.

Hopes and prayers for rain or a wind shift . I know first hand how it is to have to evacuate , and worry if there will be something left to go home to. You grab the pictures and a few keep sakes and protect the ones you love by getting away. Thats the important part. Perhaps today, the winds will subside

it is still pretty gnarly here in san diego, but they think the worst is over in regards to the fires threatening the major metropolitan/urban dense areas. we still have numerous fires, all of which are like 0 to 15% contained. officials estimate them burning for a week or more still until they get containment - not putting them out but containment! preliminary estimated damage for just san diego alone is exceeding 1 billion dollars. ouch. at least some people are being allowed to return to their houses now. the fire/police/cities/etc etc are doing a great job. sure they were over cautious and evacuated people just in case in a lot of cases, but it is worth it imho. lessons learned from the cedar fire in 2003 (?) and the other ones we've had. the president is scheduled to be here tomorrow. hopefully fema does a better job here than they did in new orleans....
i just saw on the news how part of the south east is now flooding and over here we're burning. is this irony?

Have all the members from that area checked in to say they're OK? Does anyone know.
