Involved in an auto accident

My daughter and I were on our way to an appointment on Monday (she was driving).  We were driving down a residential street about two blocks from my home when someone decided to make a u-turn.  My daughter beeped to alert him, but before she could stop, his car was right in front of us, and bam - we hit, and his car went into a parked car!  The driver got out to see if we were ok (he was the only occupant of the other car).  I immediately felt pain in my ribs from the impact of the seat belt and my knee felt a little sore.  Luckily my daughter was just a little bruised and the other driver was ok.

Went by ambulance with my daughter to the hospital.  Well turns out I have a broken knee cap and very sore ribs (ribs did not seem broken on the x-ray, but dr said they could still be, or at least extremely bruised.  Have to see an orthopedist tomorrow.  I was sent home with a splint to keep my knee from bending and some vicodin for pain.  My daughter luckily was ok, except for the trauma of the crash.

Anyway, vicodin (I've only taken 2 at 2 separate times, makes me very dizzy and nauseous so I'm not planning on taking any more.  Wish I could take simple advil, but don't want to cause a problem for my chrohn's, which, thank goodness, seems to be taking a back seat at the moment.

I've been doing the best I can trying to take care of our new puppy when my husband and daughter go to work.  Luckily my husband only works part-time (he is a retired teacher).  Not easy to get around with this leg splint and ribs are very sore.

Sorry for the long story, but I'm so angry and frustrated.  The other driver should not have been making a u-turn without checking for oncoming cars.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Thanks for reading.

 

Oh that sounds painful, hope your feeling better soon, take it easy, not easy to to do with a little puppy.

Hi I am glad to here you and your daughter are ok. Maybe you should take one vicodine just before
you go to bed at night.

BEEN THERE. DONE THAT. Just last may, as you may recall. Broke a rib, maybe 2. Bruised my sternum from the restraint, & got 2nd degree burn from the Air Bag deployment. Unfortunately, I believe this has also allowed my Osteoarthritis an open door to my spine! Like I didn't have enough problems..
I was ordered to take Ibuprofen while my rib(s) were healing. But fortunately, I tolerate Vicodin well. I healed well from that, in fact I just used Darvocet after using up the 2.5 day Hydrocone supply from the ER. also, got the ambulance ride, which is a BIG bill.. <sigh>
Car collisions suck almost as much as CD!

You and your daughter are in my thoughts and prayers.....hope your recovery goes well...Might be helpful to call your MD for another typpe of pain med.....there are so many differento ones out there...surely they can find something that will keep you comfortable and not make you nauseous. Glad your daughter is OK.
Try to drink lots of fluids, and do try to sit up rather than be laying down in bed when you need rest. Bruised and /or broken ribs make it difficult for you to take a full good breath( which is why the pain med is so important)...while your breathing is compromised and you are bedridden with pain and other convalescence, you can succumb to pneumonia very easily. Try taking deep breaths whenever you can manage it even tho it may be painful.
Just the old retired nurse in me....I guess once a nurse always a nurse....do want to see you back on your feet and enjoying your life PDQ.
