altho i dont have crohns, my husband does and i feel i live with it also. so i wanted to add my view and experience to your question.
it seems to be completely individual. i have asked this question before to drs and on here. my husband wont take his meds correctly, eat right, or quit drinking. what will it do to him?
no one knows. he has taken pred, asacol, pentasa, entocort, cipro, nexium, and had a colonoscopy and a endoscope. he has moderate crohns in his large intestine and stomach (inflammation, tons of ulcers) and occasionally joint issues (swelling, redness and fever). no one ever did a small bowel, so we dont know.
periodically, he bleeds and has D most of the time. some days many times, some days not much. heartburn all the time, i think, i suspect.
what is he doing to himself with his actions? no one knows. drs wont mess with him or do any more tests until he wants to comply and try to help himself. so we watch, and wait and see. they say, "see ya in the ER sometime!"
he takes meds sporadically, usually when the D and bleeding bother him enough to take them again. this might temp ease his symptoms but it is doing nothing to heal him properly.
his remicade, which the dr was going to until he realized my husband wouldnt comply, would have cost us 2000$ a month. we only make 1900$. lol. why spend it unless he is gonna try to help himself?
its a wait and see thing. it would be your choice, i think. toss of the dice. i wish you the best in what you decide:)
