Did a search of the board, but not much on Methotrexate. I was wondering about peoples experiences with it, either positive or negative. Has it helped or not helped anyone with fistulas? Has anyone one had success with getting off or reducing Prednisone using Methotrexate. Any bad experiences?

Jack - ugh! I really didn't like that one. I was on it between Remicade and Humira. I got really achy all over after each injection. Besides prednisone, that's the worst I've been on. Maybe someone will come along with a good experience though :)

I hated methotrexate as well. It did help for a while but it was really hard on my body. Make sure you alternate legs becuase the muscle goes away at the injection site leaving a weird sunken in dent. Also, I hate the smell of rubbing alcohol now, and just thinking about it makes me want to vomit. It did some bad things to my liver as well. My new doc said this was a bad drug to be on and got me off of it pretty quick. A double dose of remicade every 6 weeks and aziothiprene everyday got me on the mend and fixed my fissures.

Hi

ive been on methotrexate almost a year now and appear to be tolerating it well the only disadvantage is that it lowers your immune system ive missed almost 4 months due to swollen glands,the flu,and flare ups but ive not been admitted to hospital at all this year since being diagnosed in 2004.

Personally i dont have any side effects i take 5mg of folic acid every monday and i get my methotrexate on the friday the folic acid cuts down the side effects as the drug is toxic the only thing i notice is my hairs got really thin and half of it ends up in the shower apart from that ive only got good things to say about this drug.

I dont really have much choice with the metho as my body does not tolerate oral meds very well.

I have been on Metho since May.  I had a BAD reaction to azothiaprin, ended up in the hospital. I inject it into my stomache.  Took a bit of getting used to.  I have noticed that my hair is thinner and I do still have some body aches.  Really notice the aches the day be for the injection.  The way I look at it, I can put up with the injections and thinning hair if it keeps the flares to a minimum.
