Anyone take Certolizumab ?

Need some info on this med from those that have taken it. How long were you on it and what if any help did it give you ?I might go on it but need to know more about it decisions are hard to make so please let me know. lol gail

Ok so I spent some time looking it up and it doesn't sound too bad .What are your thoughts ?It is in the same line as Rem and Hum. lol gail

sound interesting Gail...I just look it up....sound like abatacept ( orencia) thats in the phase 111 also...this is the one GI suggested for me...well if you decide to take keep me posted we will be 2 guinea pigs :-=)

Hi Glad you responded. Yes I was reading where you are going to be trying abatcept I also have read some stuff on that. There is another one they mentioned to me called MLN002 which I did not find much info on..it is given by IV the other is injection and is supposed to be given by needle. The certo is supposed to be cheaper then Rem and Hum. and I would have to go off the steriods and then restart them oh what fun. Right now I am only on Pred so ouch on that. I went alot yesterday was full of the poo pred. kicking in I guess and today have cramps. Been having some incontinence in morning on occasion not loving that.I would have to travel to Halifax where they are doing the studies the car I got here is very old. Of course there are test to be done before what did you get done?Anyway they are going to call and get ahold of my GI . So far now it's see how things go and try to get my head into quitting the ciggies. I keep thinking about it but that's as far as I have gone yikes I am thinking of one now. You must keep in touch and let me know how you are doing my little piggy friend.ha ha lol gail

HI piggy ( gail);-) We should definitively keep in thouch....you sound like me I have to quit smoking too :-(...the test I have done was a stoo sample( have to do this at each visit) chest xray, blood test, urine test, a reast exam( dome by my GI ) my GI is also the study doctor so that makes it easier....also you have to score at least 220 on the CDAI . they took my vital sighs and that's it...I will go 2x in 1 months then every month for 3 month and after the 12 weeks the induction phase if I feel ok I go to the maintenance and have a chance of guettin 50% placibo 50% abatacept....if I am not feeling great they will put me in maintenance for abatacept. then I don't know....right now I am ok I have some pain and I only go to the bathroom about 3 -5 time ...I am a bit scared that I am not going to be a candidtae because of a new symptoms I have...the dentist thinks that its called lichen planus....anyway I have to the my research person on monday and let her know....just hope it's ok. i'll be so disaponted....my other option is remicade....

Symnptoms are lots of BM's solid and D for 2 days now it's like I was clogged up and all h... broke loose. Cramping today which I haven't had much of for a long while. Other then that lots of gurgling and sounds like running water at times. I really hope you do good on your trying it .So how is it given pill or IV's? Hope you like your research person they are nurses down here that do a lot of the paper work and probably arranging stuff like taking a person for testing.Some of the ones here are for 16 and 18 weeks ,that is a long time not sure I want to do all that.lol gail

Hi my research person is a nurse too...I will be taking IV and it will be held at my GI office they have a section for ppl with study case and taking remicade...I know I will be in good hand....she's so funny and nice....she ask me to remind my GI for the breast exam and I just gave a look and she said....hummm you're not going to tell him aren't you I said ....nop I won't so she send him a email and when I saw him he said ok I need to do a breast exam and I said so she emailed you and he says nop I talked to her.....so I did have the breast exam....my study is 12 week and if I am still a candidate it will be another 12 months.....did you meet anybody yet? is there any side effect?

my first visit will be 3 hr but then it will be only for about 1 hr the treatment is 1 1/2 hr for the first infusion and then 1/2 hr. the nurse said that there's not much side effect so they can give it faster than the remicade....I start on nov 21 and I think my gi will be there too....

Hi Gachrons--You're from GA right?  The drug you are talking about is being developed by a pharma company in Smyrna, GA.  I'm sure you can call their medical affairs people and they can tell you more about it.  (I'm sure you can google and find it--UCB, Inc)

Good luck finding something that works for you!

PS--I don't mean to get in your business about smoking, but I was at a symposia where data was presented on smoking and CD.  It appears the chance of having surgery goes way up if one smokes.  If one quits, the odds go down over time to that of a non-smoker.
