Intestinal Migraines

Eggs casue me cramping and some nausea, sugars make me poop and some abd discomfort happens with it, dairy has to be the worst by far. I get intense pain and nausea I never vomit but i can't get to the bathroom fast enough for the other end. From what i have read is that most people with Crohn's are lactose intolerent. I can do yougut in small amount but that is because it is cultured. I guess that it is the sugar in milk and milk products that causes the problem. This is what I have been told anyway. I don't usually vomit from anything but sure wish I could sometimes. I also get a real full and bloated feeling when I get eggs or dairy.
I read that you had a stricture. What kind of drugs did they put you on? the GI that i see didn't seem to have too much good to say abput helping a stricture. Do you know if most people end up having to have surgery? I am on Remicade but according to my GI this will not help much with the stricture. What other procedures did you have done? Also what kind of thing did you stay away from to help with the stricture?

Forgot to add the part about the low fibre diet. Whenever I ate salad, nachos, corn etc. I would get really sick. Eventually ate an almost no fibre diet, not good, but the alternative was worse.

KayDee, I've had migraines for almost 30 years now. I've never heard of an intestinal migraine, but after giving it some though, I suppose it is possible. After all, a true migraine is usally caused by vascular infalammtion in the brain. The intestines are often referred to as the "enteric brain" and contain all of the same neurotransmitters as the brain, so why couldn't a migraine affect the gut? I know there are occular migraines and neck migraines. However, in all my years of migraines, I've never noticed an exacerbation of gut problems during one.

I suspect that your labor-like pains were really the result of the stricture, espcecially since they haven't returned since the surgery. Nausea and vomitting are very common with migraines though and can occur with any type of migraine.

What are you using to treat or prevent the migraines? Are you using diet alone? Haven't any of your Docs tried treating you with meds to prevent or at least abort the migraines?

1998 was the year of the sinuses for me and I had a nightmare sinus surgery which created the need for 2 more to fix the problems that one left behind. My Docs were all certain that allergy shots would help me and so I started them. Within 6 motnhs, I was experiencing a huge increase in migraines. They got so bad that the Fioricet I had used for many years was no longer effective and I had to self inject Imitrex. It wasn't long before I was injecting up to twice a week and still having constant migraines. I tried all sorts of preventive meds too and nothing was helping. Then, a co-worker mentioned that her nephew had to stop his allergy shots because of the headaches he had. Wow! I had never thought of the shots as the cause and rushed over to the allergist to discuss this.

I was then started on steroids the morning of my shots and then later that night. The headaches eased slightly, but didn't go away. Finally, I stopped them. It took approx 6 months before the migraines began to lessen. Now I am back to my regular routine and still get a monthly migraine, but they are much less severe and managable with my trusty ole Fioricet.

So, it's been a long time for me since playing with the new meds, but I understand there are many out there which cn be very effective. I think it's time you find a Doc who is willing to work with you to find an effective treatment. This may require an evaluation from a Neurologist, but if it gets you relief, it will be well worth it.

I have migraines, some sinus ones, some tension, but mostly related to hormonal issues. Mine are around the time of ovulation and 3 days before my period through about the 4th day of bleeding. This has always occured in my life even though I am peri-menopausal now. Also, on the sinus thing...CD affects the muscous lining of your stomach & intestines. It seems logical to me, when your sinuses are screwed up, so is your stomach (that way for me anyway). I believe you labor pain mostly came from the stricture and the D & vomiting from the migraine/stricture combo. You might want to discuss your preventative options on the migraines with your DR. or go see a ENT doctor as well. I have chosen not to take the preventative Rx's for the migraines. I'm too scared of that class of drugs/side effects. Percocet is my pain reliever of choice for the CD & migraines. If I catch the migraine when the "auras" occur at onset with the Percocet, it usually doesn't go into the whole D & vomiting issue with me. I also use hot, steamy rags for the sinuses & tension ones. And like most migraine sufferers...I live in the dark when I have one. I also stay away from chocolate, cheese, nuts, caffeine and processed meats which are my migraine & some of my CD triggers.
