Do you tell your dentist you have CD?

I let them know what meds I'm on. Each time I go in, even for a cleaning, they ask me if my meds have changed. If you're on immunosuppressants, they want to know.

I tell my dentist because dentists like to prescribe antibiotics and/or tell you to take ibuprofen, either of which can cause problems for Crohns.

I always keep my dentist updated on my meds and disease status (as well as my optometrist). Since we have extra intestinal manifestations, it is good to have them looking to catch a problem early. Also, medications for inflammation or antibiotics can affect your dental care. Immuno suppressants may make getting a gum infection easier, etc. I have also found that cleanings can be painful if I am in a full flare even though I do not have mouth issues...so it is good for them to know these things.
As it turns out, my dentist has a daughter with CD and I hope that I can help him too with information and support!

You have to tell your dentist, there's no reason why he shouldn't know, it's part of your health afterall and when you get bad mouth ulcers the dentist can better understand what's going on, not to mention having to get out of the chair at a moments notice to use the can.

In the distant past, no. After what happened a few years ago, I definitely tell them. Last major work on my mouth, my gums & lips swelled & cracked. Overnight. It was AWFUL. I'll try to prevent another recurrence. I believe it had something to do with the novacaine injections & my screwy immune system. Also, as said above, if you're on immunosuppresants, they need to know.

Hey Fitzy...it's nt just the rushing to the potty I had to warn my dentisit. I had to tell him "I don't do impressions". We laughed picturing me doing John Wayne. I have the worst gag reflex and found myself choking on the first two attempts to mold my crown. He had to change the mold stuff and use a faster drying stuff. Boy the look on his face when I started to go white and choke---it's good to know he can move fast if I have to push for the potty too

With all of the drugs we are on, you kind of have to tell your dentist. I have had really bad rare reactions to dental work, my gastro told me these weird bumps that broke out and hurt on my bump are just another crohn's symptom.  My dentist was worried and put off doing the rest of my mouth until they subsided. It was all in all a horrid experience, and crohns does make our teeth worse, as well as all of the immune suppresants and steriods.  Please tell them every med you are on!

I told my Dentist and he hardly knew what CD was, I had to explained to him as he asked questions, and why it happens and it was annoying kinda.

I told him the meds I was on and he never heard of them (I went this week btw). He cleaned my teeth, polished, all went well. I came back the next day later for cavity filling, he gave me novacaine needle and I was ok after, and it's been 2 days later so I guess i'm all good. I guess my immune system isn't too bad yet as i've only been on Imuran for a week.  Also, where he put needle is healed already, and it only hurt for a few hours after.

I told my dentist about my CD, and he then told me about his IBS.(I had no idea)

He also motivated me to stop drinking sugar.

"What do your GIs say about it?"

My G.I. reminds me that my immune system may be compromised, healing may take longer...

I have not had any problems with fillings, teeth pulled, crowns.

I also had 7 surgeries last month to remove lipomas throughout my body.
(non cancerous fatty tissue growths, similiar to cysts, just under the skin)

I had 2-3 done in one setting, no more, using a local.(wide awake)
Had one in my forehead which was tricky to remove.

No infection problems, scars are healing up well.

Now if my White Cell Count was really low, then I would not have taken the chance.

my dentist actually has crohn's, i thought it was pretty cool when i found out.

I always tell. They need to know we can't have NSAIDS, the meds you are on and if your are immuno suppressed.
