Should I taper off of Entocort, Imuran, Pentasa?

Hi everyone!

I should be starting Humira next week, and I was wondering if anyone's tapered off of Entocort, Imuran, or Pentasa before. My GI told me to take two pills of the Entocort instead of my usual three until next week, but I'm not sure what to do about the Imuran or the Pentasa. Does anyone have experience tapering off these drugs?

You're doctor probably wants you to stay on those.  I'd call and ask.

I agree to ask your Doc. Mine wants me to stay on Entocort long term.  I decided I would try to go down to 2 pills of entocort a day and at about day 3 I got very bad D and all the signs of a flare. I went back up but I still don't feel right. I think it threw me out of whack or something. Just make sure your Doc is aware what you want to change etc... He/she might let you taper off one at a time or something. good luck Karen

My daughter took 9 mg Entocort for 6 weeks, then 6 mg for 4 weeks, then 3 mg for 4 weeks, then 3 mg every other day...the third of the "off" days landed in hospital. Failed taper.

After using pred to recover, had to start all over again. 9 mg Entocort for 8 weeks, 6 mg for about six months, then 3 mg for the past five months...not going off Entocort any time, soon, because prefers to stay out of hospitals.

Ok ,my GI doctor said that I could stop the Imuran and the Pentasa immediately, no taper necessary. He said to go down to 2 mg of Entocort (from 3 mg) for the next week. I've been on Entocort for the past 4 1/2 month - is 2 pills per day for a week too fast of a taper?

john's girl, I guess you can just see how your body reacts. when I tried to taper of entocort to 2 pills from my 3 a day on the 5th day I was very sick.... but we are all different! Karen

When I tried tapering Entocort from 3-2 to the 1 pill a day I went into a crazy flare, I even got insomnia, felt like withdrawals. But I stayed on one for 3 more months and then one day was able to just stop!
