I'm really just venting right now. I've been flaring for about 2 months now. I've had a colonoscopy and a UGI/SBFT. They found inflammation around a stricture. I was told the the GI was going to consult with the Humira rep about the stricture issue and then he would bring me in to start the treatment (if he gets the ok).

I am at the end of my rope here. I've been sick as a dog since yesterday morning. Fever, cramping, vomiting, etc. I feel so tired. I called the GI to beg him to hurry up, and guess what? He's on vacation until the Monday after Thanksgiving.  That means I have at least a week to wait to get in. I don't know what to do.

I have a beautiful 19 month old daughter that I've been too sick to play with. I'm tired of being confined to a couch all day.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to how in the world I can cope with this until the doc is back? A week seems so long to me!

If you're game for it, you could try going on a liquid diet using Ensure or Boost instead of solid food. It's an old treatment for Crohn's but can be quite effective. If it works for you, you're likely to start seeing at least some improvement within two or three days (e.g., less pain, less fever, more energy).

What about going to the ER. Maybe you could go in and get some treatment started before your doctor gets back. Sure wish I could be more help, and hope you get feeling better soon. God Bless!

Mindy, the only thing that I can suggest, is the same as Nanners. If things are getting really out of hand, you may need to get IV fluids,
dehydration can make you feel pretty lousy, and if you've been vomiting that could be your problem. A good 24 hours of IV fluids and
meds may have you feeling much better. I wish you luck sweetie...

I agree.  It is so easy to get dehydrated - and if you are, and get the IV fluids, you definitely will feel so much better.  It would be a start...

I agree, if it gets too bad, go in to the hospital and get some treatment. I've been known to do the boost diet myself, and it really does work. But I don't know about when being that bad off. I hope you start to feel better!

Hi Hopefully your fever won't last too long.I guess the IV's and I know prednisone brings things around pretty fast. If you are having bad pain that isn't going away I would get to the hospital they can get you back on your feet again. Give the little cuttie a hug from us. Hope this lets up and a liquid diet I imagine you are on it now though .Take care and let us know when your feeling better. lol gail

I agree that you shouldn't have to wait around to get help from your doctor..go to the ER if you need to. What is it with the docs? I called mine Friday am with a medication question, and he or his office never even returned my call. Are they all the same. Does anyone actually see a GI with 24 hour coverage?

Kasper - thanks for the offer. I'm pretty desperate right now! I would consider taking those extra Humira syringes and going to jail if I didn't have my daughter to look after! :)

This illness can really make me crazy. I'm going to call the docs on Monday and beg to see another GI doctor in the group. I can't wait any longer. I'm on a liquid diet for now. I will go to the ER if I can't take it any more. It seems like I've gone there a few times and left no better than I was when I got there.

What a crummy time of year to be sick! It seems like every commercial on TV these days is about Thanksgiving food!!

Feel better. Maybe try a little Gatorade in a syringe if you can't tolerate to drink,that way you will atleast get some fluids and electrolytes into you,how about ice chips? I think it's a good idea to start with one of the partners in your Gi's practice. smurf    My son saw this icon and asked me to post it for you since you don't feel good. (he's 7)
