Pregnancy and Humira

Hi left a message yesterday with the forum stating that I am pregnant and I have active disease that I can not control.  My doctor suggested prednisone but like a lot of people I can't function on prednisone.  So I was wondering if anyone who was pregnant with active disease has ever been on Humira at the same time?!  I hope someone will know.

I am on HUmira I am not pregnant yet but hoping after this fistula surgery that when healed...and after a colonoscopy 6 months after my next surgery...that my husband and i will get the green light to start a family. I know I will need a high rish OBGYN and actually have to cantact the one I want...it is actually my colorectal surgeon's Wife. I have gone to fetal maternal medicine before I was married just to sit down with the doc there and talk about my meds...this was before humira before all of these surgeries I have had this year...it was about 5 months before we got married.

I have asked my GI about the HUmira and he feels as though if it is the med that controls my symptoms or what I am hoping for is to go back into remission then it is safer to stay on the med than to go off of it wheich may cause a bad flare endangering both you and the unborn child. I recall reading on the official HUmira site that they are asking people to register with them if they are currently on HUmira and become pregnant. I believe they are just collecting more data. So far I do not think they have found negative effects. Like most meds I highly doubt breast feeding will be allowed afterwards but that is with most meds and I am on lots of meds for other things as well...asthma, migraines, etc

GL with your pregnancy and the HUmira. I have found that my humira does help I am still having this fistul,a but the drainage and size of it is about half as much compared to when I was not on it. I am hoping to get the green light sometime in 2008. please keep me updated on any complications that arise and all of that knowing that I too will most likely will have to remain on humira when that time comes for me

I just started Humira on Thursday....    But I am not Pg...   At least I hope I am not!
