Pharmacy wouldn't fill B12 w/out calling doc

My GI wrote the recent B12 script for 1ml every other week.  My pharmacy wouldn't fill it this weekend because they said that was more than should be expected!  OK I know some of you guys take B12 injections more than once a month.  Anyone have this problem?

For a while there I was getting B12 every week to rebuild my stores.  We just went back to every other week.  I don't think I can cut to every month---after two weeks, I start getting the tingling around my mouth and in my hands again.  Since we all know that tingling can become permanent, I am not willing to risk it.

My pharmacy had no problem filling mine. In fact, it was my insurance that was a bit of an issue, so they ran it through using my AAA because it was cheaper to not use the insurance. Hopefully they will get it straightened out today for you.

I've never had to get an RX for B12, when I was getting shots at the docs they had the B12 at the office and then when I was weaned onto pills I buy them OTC.

I have never had trouble getting B12 vials - whether I was on once a week injections or once a month.   I just changed insurance companies, however, and the new insurance company doesn't cover it....BUT...it was only $10 for four vials, so who cares if they don't cover it.     Not sure why your pharmacist would be objecting to a doctor's script.  It's not unusual for people to get weekly B12 injections with Crohns.  

Perhaps the script was written for a 3 month supply (like a mail order script)?   Pharmacies typically will only fill a script for 1 month at a time.   But even then, I've never had trouble...the pharmacy just fills one month's worth and then I have refills.  They're usually smart enough to figure that out....maybe you should change pharmacies.

Good Morning

My husband's Rx for Cyanocobalamin is a 10 mi vial for multiple use and we have not had any problems refilling his script. He receives on shot per month.

Hope you get this straightened out.

OK so pharmacy is still waiting for a call back from the doc.  Should I have explained the medical reasons for B12 injections???  I just find it is making me angry that they are questioning this when others get more than this.  They do not know my medical condition enough to know that this is standard for a Cd person...maybe I should have spoken up & explained the surgical implications of CD, the neurological implications of low B12 and my personal history.  But I suppose they would not accept my explanations.  aaargh I am going out tonight and want to make picking this up part of the trip...we have a bunch of snow and it is cold...I have already been to the store once this weekend to try and get this.

I would think it wouldn't hurt to explain it but obviously if it is a rx its for a medical condition. I understand your frustration though.

It sounds like your pharmacy is not helping you take care of this.  And in the business of taking care of patients, not to mention making money, they should be working a little harder for you.  I agree, it maybe time to switch pharmacies.  That maybe the only way they will actually listen to you.
