Hello!  A friend of mine suggested this website to me and I am happy with what I am finding.  I am 28 yrs old and possibly have Crohn's.  Last month I went in to the Dr for abdominal pain, his first thinking was that it was IBS but he ordered a CT scan to rule out anything else.  The scan came back as the majority of my Ileum as well as the begining of the large intestine (cant think of what it is called) are inflamed and thick.  I saw a GI Dr on Fri and am going to get a colonoscopy on Thursday to confirm the diagnosis.  She said that it looks like Crohns but it could be a virus, a CT is not 100%. 

So that is where I am now.  I feel pretty good during the day but night times are a little rough.  Im not having diareah at this point (did have some when I saw the Dr the first time) and have not had any bleeding.  My biggest complaint thus far is the pain and cramping and the general crummyness feeling. 

Any advice is welcome....questions to ask the Dr and such.  Seems that some of you have a lot of experience.

Hi There. Welcome to this forum...this was my lifeline when I was first diagnosed. It is good you are getting a colonoscopy..you will get biopsies to confirm the diagnosis. If you go to the Crohn's foundation website, there is a ton of information about Crohn's and inflammatory bowel disease. You will learn all about the medical test, medications and management. Go to www.ccfa.org. I know this can be overwhelming, but try to take things one step at a time. Good luck with your colonoscopy, and let us know how everything works out.

I'm new too! I haven't had a definite diagnosis yet either, but my Dr. is 98 percent sure its crohns colitis.  I was just like you for years.  I've been gassy, bloated and constipated. I have always had heartburns. its as if food just doesn't wan't to go through.  Now it's getting really bad since ( see my post Granulomatous appendicitis ) surgery. Now I do have the runs and bleeding and stuff.  Every one is different and I read that a few rare people , depending where the crohns is, get constipation or sometimes just gas and bloating.  It is so misserable to be full of gas all the time.  How can that happen even when you don't eat any thing at all? Take it seriously. It seems like all the medical web sites get there info from the same text book. As with anything there are different stages to this disease and everyones different.  I think the earlier you catch it the better off you will be.  I'm glad I stumbled upon this site too.  It's not as scary when there are others to share with.  Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon!

Just wanted to add my welcome. Sounds like from the CT you are showing Crohns in the terminal ileum and cecum. Thats where I have it and it is the most common place for Crohns to show up. Glad you are going for the colonoscopy. By the way, I don't think viruses cause something like Crohns to show up on a CT. Keep us posted and let us know how the Colonoscopy comes out. Good luck!

Thank you all for your welcomes and advice! 

I got my blood work back today and it shows that I am in fact aniemc and the markers for intestinal inflamation came back positive.  I guess the colonoscopy is just to make it a 100% diagnosis.  Fun times!

Yes, mine is showing in the terminal ileum and cecum....still getting used to all the terminology!

First, welcome to the board! Just to let you know, there's a fine line between Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) diagnoses. Granted, they are both Irritable Bowel Diseases (IBD). A lot of people on here have moved between both a UC and a Crohn's diagnosis. They are similar diseases, yet so different. As you go through the board here, you will find that we each have our own uniqueness with the disease. Unfortunately, there's no "textbook" cases for UC and Crohn's. Both diseases present themselves in different ways to different people (for example, some people have Constipation, others have D).

The diagnosis road isn't always at the speed we like it to be. It sounds like you are on the right track. Best of luck!

I don't know if bleeding is common when it's just a virus, it is more common with having IBD though, never with IBS and never inflammation with IBS either.

Let us know how all goes with the colonoscopy.
