Xifraxan and Nexium?

Anyone have any opinion or suggestions on these drugs?  Nothing that i have been on for 2 years has helped my rectal crohns and they are now suggesting these.  I likely will start Humira soon as well.  (Built up antibodies to remicade immediately)  Humira is the one thing i havent tried yet.  FYI, i have had bad reactions recently with both flagyl and tetracycline and i hope this wont do the same.  Please offer any advice.  Also, got the name of a Dr. Scott Harris at Georgetown that i am going to January 7th.  Anyone know of him?  Thank you and happy holidays.  I might be running to the bathroom w/ urges 30 times a day but next week ill be doing it in the Bahamas at least!

Are they Rxing these for the same issue? I'm assuming you mean Xifaxan. I have been on Xifaxan for about 1.5 years. It is an antibiotic for travelers D used off label for Crohn's. It has helped me tremendously. I don't have to run nearly as many times and actually can get to work on time most days. I have to go an average of 6 - 8 times a day down from more than 20. Nexium is for acid reflux, I think? Hence, my confusion. I take Previcid for Gerd, and it helps for that, I haven't taken Nexium.

Xifaxin, like Zanne said, has been used with lots of success in treating traveler's diarrhea or refractory (i.e. non-responsive to traditional treatment) IBS. The good thing about Xifaxin versus Flagyl is that it only acts in the intestine and is not systemically released, so there are fewer side effects. Hopefully it will prove successful for you! And I'm also confused about the Nexium, as that is used to treat acid reflux and/or GERD.

i told my GI about my chest pain, he put me on nexium. my chest doesnt hurt anymore but i have been getting headaches alot more. the chest pain was worse then the headaches are so im going to try and stick it out for a little longer. we will see =)
