I was just wondering if anyone here knows if Asacol can cause weight gain or any other side effects similar to prednisone?
Thanks a bunch!

I have been on Asacol for over 2 years and it has not caused me any side effects at all. I take 6 400mg caplets a day. I can tell you that I can't take more than that, it upsets my gut a little if I do. But I experience no side effects and definetly nothing like the evil Pred.

I take 4 pills of Asacol, 3 times a day (12 a day) and haven't had side effects from it. I definitely notice if I don't take them. I've been on Asacol for about
2 years.

The prescribing information on Asacol does list increased appetite as a side effect of Asacol. I did not see "weight gain" listed as a side effect from any of their studies. That does not mean that it has not been reported since then. If the Asacol is reducing your symptoms, it is possible that your appetite has increased and you are tolerating and/or absorbing nutrients more thereby leading to weight gain.
However, being a person that has had very rare side effects to medications, what you are experiencing might just be the medication. One never knows exactly because this disease can really change how we absorb and handle oral medications.
