Alright here is the deal: I had surgery on the 13th, and it has been hard to tell whether or not the pain I feel is simply from my incision site or if it is still pain from Crohn's Disease. I thought that I was doing well, but then just tonight I started getting the gross cramping and nauseous feeling that I get when I am flaring or something. I am laying in bed with a hot water bottle on my tummy and just feel like crap. While trying to go to the restroom my stomach was in knots and making many noises basically telling me that it was a bit upset, and just kept cramping. Could this just be a normal person cramping or is it probably my crohn's still. Although I had surgery my surgeon said that it wasn't a guarantee that my pain would be gone. What a bummer...but it is also too soon to tell. Thanks all!

Hey there,

Your surgery was just 16 days ago.  Have you seen your surgeon post-op? Are you having BM's with the cramping or just the cramping?

Any bloating, fever etc.  You may want to talk with your surgeon to rule out any post op complication. Just my 2 cents worth.

it takes a long time to get over surgery. (actually, my surgeon said a full year for EVERYTHING to heal) there are lots of layers to heal and it seems that one thing will go away and another begins. give yourself time and take it easy.

Could you have possibly ate something you shouldn't have yet? Just a thought. But I also think you should call the doc if it doesn't get better.

Thanks for the help! I haven't seen my surgeon for post-op yet, and I don't see him until the 14th of January. However I see my GI doc on January 2nd to discuss maintenance medications so we will figure things out there as well. I have my staples out on the 7th as well.
Yes I did have a bowel movement with the cramping last night, but I still felt like crap afterwards and had right sided pain as well. uugh. I have pretty much been bloated since surgery, but I also have a little tummy from the prednisone so it is hard to tell which it is. I haven't run a temperature though. Hopefully it is nothing.

I had surgery this month too. What a pleasure it was especially during christmas! It has been three weeks since my surgery and I too feel like crap. I have done a lot of reading and research for answers on what goes on post op. I know that it takes a long time before you will feel well. I am tired all the time, have back pain and am having a hard time lifting my right leg (experience a sharp pain) when I do. I never realized it was so draining to take a shower! No-one really tells you what to expect while healing. When the surgeon said 6 week recovery, I was thinking great.....I'll be better in a week and have 4 weeks of shopping and fun. Well, I can say now that I will need every bit of the six weeks just to be able to tolerate minimal activity. Best of luck to a speedy recovery!

My father just had surgery and he is recovering very slowly as he is 60 years. He was very healthy before CD hit with a dose of CMV to complicate the issue. Anyway my point is it seems to be a very slow recovery. He shakes after he takes a shower due to lack of energy (mind you he lost 50 pounds and now weighs 132 when he should be 180). He recently gained 4 pounds and is able to eat solid food. So take things slowly everyone. Take comfort in knowing that you are not the only one who is struggling through recovery. As for the cramping well my dad had to ease into solid food due to the cramping so keep that in mind.

Gigi213 I am sorry that you also had to have surgery, but it sounds like we went under the knife around the same time. I had it just 18 days ago, and I am still hurtin pretty bad at the incision site. I have had major abdominal surgery before removing my spleen and gallbladder but I was 6 years old so I dont remember too much of it...probably a good thing. I am also so darn tired, and take multiple naps throughout the day. I have also noticed that my lower-mid back hurts, but I am assuming that this is becasue we are overcompensating there with out abdomen being sore as it is. I try to twist and turn to pop or stretch my back, but I am always afraid that I am going to pop a staple or something. Have you had your staples out yet? Mine dont come out intil the 7th of Jan since I was on soooo many immunosupressants and prednisone for quite a while....apparently these babies get in the way of healing...super. My doc also said 6 weeks for recovery, and I too thought that it would be a week or so and then I would be back on my game...yeah I thought wrong. I am going to need the full 6 weeks, and I start college again on the 7th and of course I am a genius and signed up for 21 credits. Good times. Well I would love to chat sometime! Take Care!
