Been Awhile

I have not posted in some time -- not because I have not thought about this place or been concerned -- just busy Crohning along with my daughter who has the cruddy disease. I used to write here regularly and learned much from the posters here for which I am most grateful.

Right now, we are kind of in the doldrums, I reckon. We started off with some hope -- Remicade, Humira. I don't mean to say that we are totally without hope now and it is not that we thought the Remicade and Humira were cures but we did hope for possible remission that might last a couple of years.

Could be worse. I think she has been in the hospital two more times since I wrote here. Just got out again a couple of weeks ago. At least now, she can slide off the Prednisone very quickly and does not suffer much ill effect. She is now on Entocort in addition to the Humira and Imuran. She has an abscess and a fistula and will have surgery for those in a couple of weeks. I really liked the surgeon when we met with him. I like a doctor who is straight forward and knows his/her stuff -- no holds barred. He told her that she is on a track for surgeries in the future; that the time will likely come when she will have to have a bag, either temporarily or permanently -- unless there are new drugs developed or a cure.

By far, he is the most knowledgeable doctor we have met. That was refreshing.

A lot for a nineteen year old woman to have to take in but I would rather for her to hear the truth of the crud than to think that it is just going to go away.

Anyway, we are doing all right. She still works every day that she is not in the hospital.

Just wanted to drop a line and say "hi." I will continue to read the forum because I have found this to be the best source of up to date information.
