I had cdiff from avelox for a sinus infection July 2006 the diarrhea never went away and now I have crohns.  I have not been on an antibiotic since then because I am scared to death of the cdiff coming back.  Now that I am trying to get the crohns in remission it concerns  me because  many of you end up on antibiotics post surgery.  Do you all wind up with cdiff and just get it treated?  I am taking probiotics but it is my understanding that cdiff spores always remain with you even when you test negative for cdiff like I do. 

For those who have had cdiff in the past and gotten rid of it.  Does it come back when you go on antibiotics??  Can you go on humira and remicade??

Oh my,how I can relate!! Right before I was diagnosed,I had cdiff,I was on two differant types of abx,and got the cdiff,the first time,I didn't fully recover,so in 6mths I was back in the hospital very sick,so they did my scope,and I was diagnosed!! I was put on Flagyl,Asacol,and Prednisone,and slowly got better,now this was almost eight years ago.  Iv'e only been on abx once since then,and I was fine,but I was really nervous.

I was just put on Humira three months ago,and knock on wood,it's working awesome :-)

there are some antibiotics that are worse than others. clindamycin is a biggie. one thing that helped me recently, was when i was hospitalized and on antibiotics, my infectious disease dr put me on prophylactic oral flagy- 500 mg 2-3xday. it worked well, and i am fine now. probiotics are good, but cdiff is cdiff. hellish, isn't it?

C-diff SUCKSSSSSSSS
I had it twice first time lasted 9 months second time 2 years later lasted for 11 months I was wasting away almost died from it so I understand your fear. I have since taken a Z-pak with no problem and take pre-meds to get my teeth cleaned do to hip replacement. I also get I.V. antibiotics before scopes with no more c-diff.

I live on fresh brewed no sugar decaf green tea it kills c-diff along with keeping TNF down that causes inflammation. I would add green tea to my daily intake.

PS> I got c-diff from Cipro first time second time from being in the hospital getting a hysterectomy.

I have had CD for almost 20 years. I can not count the number of times I have had to be on antibiotics. I am currently on my fourth course since the begining of December to try to get rid of a recurring sinus/ear infection. I have only had c-diff once. It was years ago. I did one round of vancomicin and that killed it. I think just like CD affects us all differently, the antibiotics affect us all differently. But if I need the antibiotics, I need them. I'll deal with the side affects when and if they arise.

I just wanted to mention that last year the AMA came out with new info that says if you have heart murmurs, and other issues that have required premed in the past for dental work that you no longer need to get the premeds. My daugher, who has cardiomyopathy from chemotherapy a few years ago always had to be premed. prior to dental work. I was shocked when her oncoogist told us theno longer require premed. I wish I could find the link. If you goggle it you will see. Just thought I would tell you since you sound like me aboutt the antibiotics and dental work!
