Remicade vs Humira

My crohn's disease can not seem to go into remission after trying endless amounts of drugs, so tomorrow I am meeting with my doctor to decide if I should go with Remicade or Humira. Anyone have thought on the differences between the two besides the way it is given? Can you drink alcohol on either of these treatments? I know that not enough tests have been done on pregnancy and the treatments but a good number of people are continuing the treatment while pregnant. Any advice would be appreciated especially since I know now that my insurance will cover either treatment, so I actually get a choice!

Remicade has been approved for CD much longer than Humira. Therefore, we have had more members try Remicade. The majority have had few or minimal side effects to Remicade. Many have had great success inmproving their quality of life while on Remicade. My gut went into remission after the third infusion. Humira is receiving great reviews here from our members. Few have reported major side effects.

While your insurance will cover both, make sure you check what the co-pay for the Humira will be. Because Remicade is given as a medical treatment, co-pays are generally lower for some. My GI had a patient switch from Remicade to Humira just for convenience but her co-pays for the Humira were so high she went back on Remicade.

I had an occasional drink while on both Remicade and Humira.

Remicade worked great for me until I had a bout of pneumonia couldn't have the treatment until the round of antibiotics were over then I lost response and started Humira all has been well. Humira very expensive I had to get on the Patient Assistance Program from the maker Abbott which I was surprised I was accepted because we had made close to 60,000 last year. This has been my life saver. I have not felt this "normal" for close to six years. I have learned to not tell the Dr. if I'm sick they probably wont let me take the injection. So I take my chance since this is the last line of treatment for me I cant afford to "lose response". Hope you get the help you need.

im on humira and it i think im in remission. I pay about 30.00 for a 90 day supply of humira. Super cheap i know it is like 820.00 a shot or something. I havent gotten sick or nothing from it. Been around tons of people who are sick and still nothing. Some weight gain, fatigue, but at least not diaherra.
