Mouth/throat sores

What do you use to aleviate the pain of mouth/throat sores?  I picked up some lysine on Saturday hoping that would help.  My primary doc gave me a mouthwash solution a while back but I've never gotten any relief using it. The thing that has me stumped on this is that my CD is otherwise under control at the moment except for this. These usually don't give me trouble unless I'm flaring ---grrrrr.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use a cream-like med for my mouth sores called Aphthasol. It cuts the pain and healing time in half. Prescription med, not over the counter. I get it from my dentist, but I am sure a GI could/would prescribe it.

Thanks. I just get so frustrated trying to manage mouth, throat and esophagus problems! Funny how I can deal with D 25 times a day, but ulcers in my mouth bring me to my knees......

I feel your pain. I have magic mouthwash, which offers some relief, and I've also used a numbing mouthwash that I swished around, ate quickly, and swished again. They gave that to me when I was in the hospital and wasn't eating so they wouldn't have to put a feeding tube in. It worked okay.

In the end, I mainly just avoid food until they clear up. not the best method, I know.

A doctor at a walk in clinic gave me a numbing gell to gargle (I think it was lydocain) if you can force yourself to keep the stuff in your mouth for a few seconds it will completely numb the sores for about an hour. The lysine gets rid of the sores completely (for me) in about three days and if I start the lysine the very first day I have the sores they never get as big or as sore.

Kenalog in Orabase works well. It is a prescription and has a steroid in it. You put it on at night and it will help them go away faster. It is hard to get them on the throat ones though. I would often get the sores just before a big flare. That's how I knew one was coming.
