For those of you who have had a resection and had their terminal illeum removed, how often do you take vitamin b12 shots? Weekly, biweekly or monthly?

Good day wantrelief, I take 1 injection per month, it really seems to help.
Good luck and God bless-

I have had 3 resections. I wasn't until about
7 or 8 years after the last resection that I had to start the B12 shots. Your body does have some stores of B12, and it depends on how severe the disease has been and how long it has been going on for, as to how soon you will need to start the shots. You should have your levels checked by your doctor and monitored. When I started, it was one shot a day for a week, one a week for a month and then once a month. about
six months ago I had to increase to once every two weeks. My husband gives me the shot so I don't have to go to the doctors office, so it is much more convenient. Some people learn to give themselves the shot, but I don't think I could do it.

I used to give myself B-12 shots monthly but now I'm seeing my family doctor regularly anyway so i decided to let him give them to me.

Yeah, I had a TI resection 8 years agao and I'm just now about
to start suplimenting B12. I'm not quite deficiant, but on th very low end of normal. I decided to forgo the monthly injections and give the weekly nasal gel a try. We'll see how it goes!

I give it to myself monthly, although I wonder if twice a month would be better.
