Interesting article. But it seemed far fetched to claim heart disease has not decreased despite vitamin D supplementation. Heart disease has not decreased due to many factors, such as trans fats.
Furthermore, is it a bad thing for vitamin D to suppress the immune system when Crohn's patients are taking so many meds to...suppress the immune system?
This article is useful because it shows how complex nutrition issues are. But we will stick with the vitamin D3 supplements because we know it is needed to help absorb calcium, because you can't get enough sun at this time of year in New Hampshire, because it seems to have a role in protecting against cancer, because my daughter's PTH rises above normal otherwise, and because other researchers believe vitamin D deficiency might predispose people to chronic disease like IBD.
