So when does this stuff become  a problem againg,

I hear some people say 3 months, whily others 5 years. Are there and Meds that are helpflu whle in remission or do you wait fot stmptoms to reappear

Hey congrats, Well I had surgery back in 92, I have been on Remicade for about 5 years now and I am in remission. I am hoping you have a long remission.

Ever tried comming off of the remicade?

I've had 3 resections. After the first 2, the disease came back really quickly and I had to have more resections. But, its been 10 years since my last resection. I am on maintence drugs. The point of the maintenance drugs is to keep you in remission and to avoid any underlying disease from forming scar tissue. Most doctors reccommend you stay on some form of maintenance, it just is a matter of which ones.

I have had two resections.
After the first one I developed a stricture right where they had reconnected me, and had to have another surgery 3 years later. I didn't take any type of maintenance med after resection #1 but I take Asacol now. My Crohns is in remission but i do suffer some with problems because of the surgeries. i.e. I can't eat everything anymore and get an upset stomach very easily. But thats just me. Hope you enjoy a long long remission.

My husband had resections in 1977, 1983 and 1993 so you can see a person may go for a long time even with active Crohn's present on scopes.  My husband does not take any meds at this time except for the arhritis medication.
I consider us very lucky and I know it will be back but we will deal with it..................
